A shared value approach to ensure long-term sustainability and social well-being. Nature value cannot be monopolized by investors -again-. This time wealth redistribution must be a priority.
Indigenous Peoples and/or local communities in the Global South highlight #CarbonCredits as essential for channelling finance into their regions, where they play a critical role in preserving ecosystems. However, to ensure these investments are both effective and sustainable, they must respect the rights, sovereignty, and leadership of Indigenous Peoples and/or local communities. ✅ In our blog, we explore: 🔹Protecting Rights and Knowledge: Indigenous Peoples and/or local communities safeguard 40% of the world’s ecologically intact landscapes. Our Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) ensure investments are grounded in free, prior, and informed consent, with transparent benefit-sharing. 🔹Inclusive Governance: Dedicated seats for Indigenous representatives in our governance structure ensure their voices are heard and integrated into the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). 🔹Delivering Real Benefits: High-integrity carbon credits offer them access to critical climate finance, fostering both conservation and sustainable economic opportunities. At the Integrity Council, we’re building a framework for a just, inclusive, high-integrity VCM - one that puts respect for the rights of Indigenous Peoples and/or local communities at its core. 🌱 🔗Read the blog to discover how Indigenous leadership can drive the future of carbon markets: https://lnkd.in/eM4JZ4iT

Last week the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the recipients of $20 Billion in grants to mobilize private capital and deliver clean energy and climate solutions to communities across America. As part of the grant awards, a Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (worth $6 billion) will be established. This accelerator will create a national financing network for clean energy and climate solutions across various sectors. It will ensure that communities have access to the necessary capital to participate in and benefit from a cleaner and more sustainable economy. This national clean financing network will provide funding for tens of thousands of projects, aimed at mobilizing private capital to reduce climate and air pollution. The network will also help to reduce energy costs, improve public health, and create good-paying clean energy jobs in communities across the country, particularly in low-income and disadvantaged communities. Today marks Carbon Literacy Action Day 🌏- a global opportunity to deepen our understanding of carbon footprints, climate change, and the role each of us can play in driving positive change. As we see the mounting impact of climate change on our planet, it’s clear that informed action is more crucial than ever. I’m personally committed to educating myself further about carbon literacy, complementing the sustainability initiatives we’re pursuing at resource | sustainable creativity ♻️ Carbon literacy is more than just understanding the science of emissions; it’s about connecting that knowledge to our everyday choices, work and community. 🌲 💧 Here at resource | sustainable creativity, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword - it’s embedded in our operations, strategies, and values. Consulting on sustainable print practices, our goal is to help organisations minimise their environmental impact. But there’s always more we can do, and that starts with deepening our knowledge about how we impact the planet. For a more just and equitable Europe (and world) - economically, environmentally, and socially speaking!
🤝 Zero Waste Europe has joined the European Alliance for a Just Transition! ZWE's contribution to the Alliance focuses on just transition and environmental justice principles in waste management and resource use approaches. The Alliance is an informal group of civil society organisations, social and environmental movements, and political parties that share a common vision for a transition to climate-neutral societies that is just, fair, sustainable, safe, and benefits all. This includes reshaping our economies, creating a new world of work, planning, and acting locally. We aim to tackle inequalities, mainstream Just Transition through policy, recognise the role of education in the transition, deliver global climate justice, and draw on human rights frameworks and science. 🌐 Learn more on the Alliance's website: https://lnkd.in/dDmKsKah #justtransition #circulareconomy #zerowaste #resourceuse #gozerowaste

🔗Carbon markets must uphold the rights and voices of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. For carbon markets to be effective and equitable, they require robust principles, including free, prior and informed consent, alongside strong social safeguards. Recent initiatives in the Asia-Pacific, including RECOFTC's regional knowledge exchange, highlight the importance of inclusive decision-making and capacity-building for Indigenous People and local communities. Empowering communities to navigate carbon markets is essential for achieving both climate goals and social justice. 🔗https://lnkd.in/gsEcrwdH
