I’ve worked in many *Bookings departments over the years and often witnessed burnout from staff and/or errors made as they’re understaffed for various reasons. So how would you justify the need to bring in a freelance scheduler? The Bookings department is often the last to be recognised in needing extra support when needed. Sad but true as it’s often been said it’s the heart of the company 💔 Reasons why you’d need one: •Short staffed for an upcoming busy period •Holiday cover •Intermediate cover while searching for a replacement role •Needs backup to allow others time to progress and train in other departments •Train up a junior team •Consultancy role to establish a new scheduling dept •Temp cover as your current team is overworked and close to burn out but can’t justify a full time position financially Look after your schedulers. Shout out: Freelance Senior Conceptualisers With several significant projects on the horizon (starting end of Feb), we need to beef up our roster of freelance talent, specifically individuals who can generate big, multi-channel concepts. These ideas would probably sit within ‘phygital’ across both global and local markets. Experience within the gaming sector would be good but not a prerequisite. We’re a small creative team so you’ll need to be self-motivated and happy mostly ideating on your own, but will be supported by design, strategy and additional freelance resources where necessary. In a typical scenario, you'll receive a strategic insight as your starting point, from which you'll craft a compelling creative platform and narrative. From there, you'll generate a variety of activation ideas that align with the overarching strategy and form the basis of the campaign. The second stage would involve fleshing out the details of the campaign and collaborating closely with the broader team to ensure its seamless execution. Don't Ignore Client Servicing: This is the most important part where freelancers are stuck and not growing their income, always give realistic deadlines to your clients, inform them about delays, don't over-commit, and don't ghost your clients. 3. Keep Realistic Prices: Your focus initially should be on developing relationships & building a network. Most freelancers don't even know how much their work is worth, they just quote random stuff, and as a result, clients either think you are not affordable or you are very cheap. P.S. Inside the organisation, employees might not have the time or the creative ability to 'think outside of the box'. It's usually the case when ideas are shut down often, or simply because the team is far too busy to focus on ideas that are outside of the realm of what's in front of them in the daily business tasks. Freelancers are not directly in that daily running of the company, in turn have a different perspective and ability to create ideas that could be deemed 'outside of the box'. - - 2. I've had a number of conversations with creative agencies across Sydney and Melbourne over the past few months, and I've noticed a relatively common theme. With the decline of large annual retainers and a shift towards more project-based work, agencies are increasingly leaning on freelancers and contractors to adapt their business models. This strategy enables them to assemble the ideal team for each specific brief. The approach also reduces full-time staff numbers and operational costs, providing agencies with greater flexibility and slightly more freedom in selecting the work they undertake. On the other side of the fence, I've also had multiple discussions with creatives, strategists, and producers, among others, who are contemplating a transition to freelance work within the next 12 to 18 months. They are drawn to the prospect of more consistent opportunities in the freelance space, and the greater chance of being involved in projects from inception to completion. It will be interesting to see how the next few years play out.
