Having recently faced challenges obtaining a prior authorization from Aetna, I found this article describing one perspective on Cigna's management of the process insightful. The evolution of Cigna's prior authorization system, including outsourcing to the Philippines and utilizing computer algorithms, is raising concerns about access within the US healthcare system. Presumably the rest of the industry has deployed a similar approach. Should we scale back the use of prior authorizations?

Despite fallout from the cyberattack of its subsidiary Change Healthcare, UnitedHealth announced profit of $8.5 billion for Q1. Profits have grown 425% since 2014 as they expanded from the 14th largest to the 5th largest company in the US today. They expect growth to continue.
