It is therefore our goal to promote sustainability in many phases of a product's life cycle: 1. Electric motors: Innovative processes such as tempering the stator laminations and improved wave windings have enabled us to significantly increase the efficiency of our radial flux motors. A new design for separately excited synchronous motors also reduces ohmic losses and thus increases efficiency. 🔋 2. Rolling bearings: Schaeffler promotes the durability and recyclability of rolling bearings through remanufacturing. Compared to new production, remanufacturing saves up to 90 % of CO₂ emissions and thus effectively supports the circular economy. ♻️ 3. Wheel bearing: Specially developed for electric vehicles, the three-row TriFinity wheel bearing offers increased axle load transmission and a significantly longer service life compared to conventional double-row bearings. RECYCLING HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY SYSTEMS // Our colleagues from EDAG PS participated in “Battery Systems 2024,” hosted by Automotive Circle, where over 70 international companies discussed the development and production of battery systems for electric vehicles. One of the key highlights was a presentation by Robert Wilschrey on recycling technologies and automation in the recycling process, covering: 🔋 End-of-life processes and circular strategies: Exploring national and international approaches to battery recycling, addressing both challenges and opportunities in Europe. 🔋 Technological advancements in recycling: Innovations in recycling heterogeneous battery systems in batch size 1, and the impact of design changes and new materials on the recycling process. 🔋 Safety and automation: Implementing automation in recycling and managing hazardous substances and high-voltage safety. Do you know our “Design for #Sustainability” standard? At #ZF, we are laying down the building blocks for #remanufacturing during product development. Besides other sustainability-related aspects, specific requirements to improve the circularity and remanufacturing of ZF products are integrated into the design process. This serves as a guide to reduce resource use and support a sustainable product life cycle. With this in place, we want to integrate those technical requirements for as many ZF products as possible and enable a second life. For example, we use more corrosion-resistant materials and specific connection #technologies that allow a damage-free disassembly.
