Host of City Manager Unfiltered podcast | Founder of the American Association of Municipal Executives | Have largest and most engaged audience of city/county managers | Proud father of a United States Marine & Sailor
Today, the American Association of Municipal Executives reached 300 founding members and is already cruising towards 400. On Monday, we had hit 200 members. Founders are excited and can't wait to get started building this organization. AAME members want to be connected. They want to contribute to something that is greater than themselves. And they recognize that not only are we in a time that requires a new approach, but that AAME is the vehicle in which they can be the change they want to see. The public sector paradigm shift I have been talking about is real. It is here. And more than 300 people are going to "shape the shift." We could get a wave of last minute registrations tomorrow because the FOMO is real, ladies and gentlemen. Are you going to be one of them? Today, you can sign up and become a founder. Tomorrow, you can help us start building. In the future, you will be able to say that you were a part of it. Because rest assured -- the AAME is going to completely re-imagine how a professional organization for city and county managers should educate and advocate on their behalf. Freelance content marketing writer working with association technology partners and writing for the association market. Publisher of Association Brain Food.
While reading GrowthZone AMS’s 2024 association survey report, I noted a few common issues. One is the difficulty of proving the value of membership to members and prospects. Another is persuading members to make time for association engagement. I also noticed a lack of intention in solving these issues: most associations admit to not having member engagement, young professional recruitment and lapsed member reengagement plans. Seems like a good place to start. https://buff.ly/49ndwVe #associations #associationmanagement #membership

The biggest problem with public life today is how it is largely conducted behind closed doors. Decisions about the issues that affect our lives are being made by a small number of people in an even smaller number of institutions That isn’t good enough. Public life shouldn’t be something a few people practice and the rest of us try to influence. It should be a collective endeavour. That’s why our goal as Public Life is to build a movement of people and organisations, working together to reimagine public life across the UK. That starts with a shared belief – that those facing social issues should have the power to create the solutions they need. If you believe what we believe, join us. We're looking for pioneering organisations to work with us on programmes that empower people affected by social issues to invent the low-cost solutions they and their communities need. And we're looking for talented innovators to lead these programmes who are inspired by working at the forefront of public-led innovation. If that sounds like you, find out more and get in touch today at https://lnkd.in/ezza3QnU #publiclife #socialinnovation #community Dave Allan Sarah Weller Carolina Skoog Matt Black

Big Conversation – key messages Our Big Conversation will run for 10 weeks until 31st January 2024. The Council want to hear: • how people feel about Hartlepool • what matters to them. • their thoughts and ideas about the type of place they want Hartlepool to be in the future It’s important that lots of people take part because the Council will be using it to help develop them develop their next Council Plan which will set out their priorities for the next 5 years. The Council want to speak to people from across Hartlepool and meet them where they are. So, they aren’t going to hold big consultation events and expect people to come to us. The Council will be hosting activities in Community and Family Hubs as well as speaking to people who come along to different groups and activities that the Council is involved in. There’s a survey for those people who would prefer to answer the questions in their own time. Tick boxes have been kept to a minimum so that there is plenty of space for people to tell the Council what they really think. The survey is available online and there are paper copies available in Council buildings such as the Civic Centre and Community Hubs. People can find out more about the Big Conversation and access the online survey by going to https://lnkd.in/ePsE652q The Council is also keen for residents, community groups and other partners to host their own conversations and share their feedback with them. There is a toolkit available to help those who want to take the Big Conversation out into their own communities and you can get a copy from the Council by emailing yoursay@hartlepool.gov.uk
