TEDx Speaker | Social Impact Strategist | Storyteller I build power through advocacy and storytelling to shape policy, empower communities, and drive cultural change to end gun violence and injustice.
Seeking help and desiring safety should never lead to death at the hands of those meant to protect us. Niani should be here, and her children should be celebrating Christmas with their mother. It’s a stark reminder of the urgent need for change. The tragic loss of 27-year-old mother Niani Finlayson in Los Angeles adds to the urgency of now and need to end gun violence and protect Black women. Community Justice Action Fund states it best “Over 50% of Black female homicides stem from intimate partner violence, highlighting the disproportionate risks faced by this community. It’s time to ensure survivor-informed crisis interventions in our communities, fostering a future where seeking help guarantees safety, not tragedy.” My hearts go out to Niani’s family as we strive for justice and a world free from the devastating impact of gun violence. Everyone says in case of an emergency call 911. I say think twice and call hotlines designed for your issue. In domestic violence situations is 911 the less of two evils? None the less. We say Niani’s name for the algorithms to catch, eyes to see and read her story, voices to speak up and advocate. No more violence. If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic violence reach out to the @ndvhofficial National Domestic Violence Hotline immediately. Call 800-799-7233 Text START to 88788 Hours: 24/7. Despite 40% of Black men reporting that they experience intimate partner violence, there is little research into their experiences. This is likely due to numerous factors including the stereotype that men are only perpetrators of domestic violence, never victims. This prevailing belief makes it difficult for all men to seek help because they report shelters and other services as unhelpful to them (Tsui, 2014). This is further complicated for Black men because of the harmful stereotype that they are aggressive and more likely to be perceived as criminals (Collins, 2009; Roth, 2004). All of these different barriers work together to create a system that does not allow for Black men to be seen as capable of being victims of intimate partner violence and unable to receive support from formal or informal networks. (Stewart, 2021) ALL people experiencing domestic violence can seek assistance at JBWS. You are not alone. Call our 24-Hour Helpline at 1.877.782.2873

Maybe if we create a bank or credit union devoted directly for habitat for humanity black communities across nation. I was appalled by the Navy credit union action denying credit to worthy Black, Asian, Latino prior service members based upon color of skin. If those controlling my reserve funds were listening then use my reserve funds in my name and help these communities whom are contributing yet not having support from the very banking resources whom are obligated to help same communities whom are not being helped. Any bank or credit union found to be non compliant toward any group looses access of my reserve fund holdings. No one in non compliance shall have access to my reserves or within system of access while in non compliance status. If non compliant then no access of any reserve funds. All reserve funds shall be liquidated and returned to federal reserve.
The time to embrace and adopt nonviolence is now. #Nonviolence #WarNeverWorks #ShiftTheCulture #MLKDay2024 #MLKDay #KHO2024 https://lnkd.in/eqhCkUjA
