Events, federal actions, resources, partnerships... oh my! NCEL is starting off July by reflecting back on all our work from the past 3 months. The actions of states are more crucial than ever following the Supreme Court's reversal of the Chevron Deference. Through NCEL, state actions are strengthened by their ability to collaborate and work together across state lines – taking the action of one state and multiplying it. Over the past three months... ➡️ We brought legislators together in the Northwest to learn more about best practices for extended producer responsibility (EPR) and deposit return system (DRS) policies. ➡️ In partnership with the Center for American Progress, NCEL hosted an event highlighting state leadership on 30×30 conservation for state decisionmakers to learn from one another and share strong policy models. ➡️ We convened a bipartisan group of 15 legislators from four states in Spokane, Washington to discuss regional transmission and energy needs. This is the art of policymaking, keeping options open to make sure government does not prematurely "pick winners". - More clarity on how the strike price and reference price will be defined. Helen Bray has posted on this and Victoria Harvey at BeZero will follow this closely. - Let us never forget the link between GGR business models and the fact that negative emissions will be included in the UKETS, with more and more details coming forward on how this will work in practice. This is the efficient, cost effective solution for CDR: a market. ----> It is tough to build an emissions market, never mind incorporating negative emissions. This puzzle is an economist's dream Soumaya Keynes Henry Dieudonné-Demaria, so we are lucky to have such a good UKETS and HMT team thinking through the implementation challenges. - The point I am most excited about was the review of MRV GGR standards published by ERM. https://lnkd.in/eJCDYQzg This builds on the excellent Task and Finish report developed by Niall Mac Dowell for BEIS, which set the foundations for UK policy on MRV. EOPSA - European Onshore Power Supply Association proudly shared the compelling business case for Onshore Power Supply (#OPS) during the 6th Meeting of the Commission Expert Subgroup on "Sustainable Ports." Our participation in the session allowed us to exchange vital information and offer valuable insights on port-related matters. At the heart of our discussion was the aim of promoting and supporting a unified implementation of Regulation (EU) 2017/352, which establishes a framework for port services provision and sets common rules on financial transparency in ports. Through collaborative dialogue and sharing of expertise, we're committed to advancing sustainable practices in ports and fostering the adoption of OPS as a key solution for environmental and operational efficiency. Together, we're shaping a greener future for maritime industries!
