I’m grateful to share I am 3 weeks in my new marketing role at Polaris Logistics Group—a powerhouse in the B2B shipping and transportation industry. I've landed my feet at a place that not only matches my skills but also mirrors my values. Polaris is a Toledo-owned business with its headquarters located right in the beautiful heart of downtown.💙 They invest right back into the people and have 'heart with action' to make the area better. And guess what? We’ve got an amazing view of Fifth Third Field from the 4th floor—I’m all about those stairs! (Elevator? What's that? 😄) Being right by the river also just adds to the charm! Developer to Marketer. How did I get here? Since my first job as a front-end developer back in 2018 (right here in downtown Toledo!), I’ve felt a pull towards design, marketing, and impactful value creation. I put off following this calling, but it never left me. Through my coding journey, I fell in love with crafting copy, SEO, and designing seamless user experiences. I was naturally pulled to create beautiful UIs. Being dubbed the "CSS Queen" (yep, that was me!) led me to explore and solve problems. All of these hats were signposts to the path I was meant to take. When I was faced with an opportunity to pivot my career due to layoffs, I decided to go the marketing/design route! (No, it wasn't THAT simple). There were sleepless nights and moments of doubt, especially in this unpredictable job market. The thought of leaving coding behind (with years of skills I've poured in) kept me up at night. The idea of staying stagnant was even worse. I was so burnt out I couldn't bring myself to open a coding editor. Leaning into my faith and pushing against every fear, I dove into online classes, boosting my graphic design and marketing skills. I still felt directionless even though I knew where I wanted to be. I told myself if I climbed the ladder in web development, I can do it again. We must step forward even if it goes against every insufferable feeling. The time will never feel right. The air will feel heavy. Take action anyways. Applying to Polaris felt like aligning the stars (pun intended! Polaris also means the North Star!! 🌟)—everything from the job requirements to the flexible schedule just clicked. Now, I'm ready to throw everything I've got into this role: writing, designing, creating and, most importantly, making an impact--not just at Polaris but also through our work with The Mustard Seed Education Foundation. The biggest takeaways here? • Let your interests and curiosities drive you instead of ignoring them. • If something sparks your interest, don't shove it aside for the sake of playing it safe. • Don't hold yourself back by ignoring it for the sake of a dollar. • The time will never feel 100% right. Time is going to pass. Do it anyways.
