The National Student Clearinghouse released a report today examining immediate (first-fall) college enrollment for the high school graduating class of 2023, persistence for the class of 2021, and completion for the class of 2017. The data is disaggregated by high school income levels, minority representation, and geographic locale. The report highlights ongoing disparities in enrollment and graduation rates among rural, urban, and suburban high schools, as well as between schools with high and low minority populations. Given the persistent gaps in these enrollment trends, we should consider case studies of successful town-gown relationships that have helped address these disparities, such as those between Ball State University and the Muncie community.
