Today our CEO, Ciarán Carruthers, represented Crown Resorts at Australia’s Economic Outlook.   At the event, Crown’s Economic Contribution Report was discussed, which outlines the significant impact our business has on the wider economy and the contribution we make in our communities. We are proud of our nearly $5b contribution to the Australian economy each year, and the fact we are Australia’s largest hospitality employer - with 4% of the industry a Crown team member. We couldn’t do what we do without our 3,900 suppliers who we spend $1bn with each year, allowing them to employ thousands of people and sustain challenging economic times. Finally, we want to thank our team members who volunteer their time to support the $83m that Crown has contributed to charities and community causes, including homelessness, domestic violence, and disaster relief.   Today, we celebrate these achievements and the people behind them. My four-year term as Chair of Community Leisure Scotland has come to an end. What an honour and privilege it has been to support the nations Culture and Leisure Trusts through some very challenging years. During that time my admiration and respect for those leading our charitable Trusts has grown even further as they faced those challenges head on with resilience, hard work and a passion to 'do the right thing'. A few parting thoughts, if I may: 1. Communities across the country need affordable culture, sport and physical activities more than ever to maintain and improve physical and mental health and wellbeing. Those services must be protected for the long term health of the nation. 2. There is less public funding to support these valuable organisations so there will have to be a restructuring to deliver services within the funding envelope available, but this restructuring must be done in a planned and rational way to get the greatest impact from the investment available. 3. We must identify, support and nurture the leaders of the future to ensure we are attracting and valuing the talent that will lead charitable Culture and Leisure Trusts for the next generation; and 4. It was fantastic to see the organisations across the sport, physical activity and culture sector come together to face the challenges of the pandemic, energy crisis and cost of living crisis. This collaborative working is vital and must continue.
