Clean Aviation announce its third Call for Proposals expected in February 2025, totalling up to €380 million in EU funding to support disruptive projects aimed at decarbonising aviation.

✈️ Driving the Future of Aviation with Innovation! The European Commission has published the "ERA Pilot Initiative on European Aviation Research & Technology Infrastructures Gaps Analysis"—a crucial step towards advancing the EU’s green, digital, and circular aviation industry. This initiative aims to identify the gaps in current aviation research infrastructures (like wind tunnels and engine test benches) and proposes a plan to modernise and build new facilities. The goal? To support the development of #disruptive #aviation #technologies, including #hydrogen-powered and electric propulsion systems, and accelerate the entry of new demonstrators into the market. By fostering collaboration and updating technology infrastructures, the EU is taking a significant step in transforming aviation towards a sustainable future. ATI’s Head of Technology – Sustainability and Strategy Adam Morton joined the University of Air Transport (UTA) in Hamburg to support the delivery of their latest executive training on the theme of "Disruptive Technologies and Operations for Decarbonization". UTA offers a high-level training course for C-suite executives in aeronautics and air transport. The aim of training is to encourage a common, systemic and cross-disciplinary vision of the challenges the sector faces and to grow links between stakeholders. Adam’s panel explored a wide range of key aerospace and aviation technology topics including: ✈️ Potential role of aircraft electrification in addressing carbon emissions 📅 Timelines for penetration of hydrogen With the backing of the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) and the French School of Civil Aviation (ENAC - Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile), together with leading industry players such as Airbus, Dassault Aviation and Thales, the course is growing in both impact and ambition. Held at the ZAL Center of Applied Aeronautical Research, the programme includes modules in Spain, France, Germany, Poland and Belgium. Adam’s session saw 35 attendees from across Europe grappling with questions on social issues, talent acquisition, financing innovation, plus local and global environmental challenges. Centred around highly interactive workshops, the discussions were intense and challenging for course attendees and visiting contributors alike. Adam commented: "It was fantastic to share so many of ATI’s sustainability insights from our pioneering Destination Zero, FlyZero, Hydrogen Capability Network and Non-CO2 Emissions Technology Roadmap initiatives. It was particularly encouraging to see participants looking to integrate decarbonisation, non-CO2, local air quality and life-cycle issues into the executive decision-making process." #aerospace #aviation #technology #innovation #sustainability #destinationzero

This phase focuses on four cutting-edge aircraft concepts designed to revolutionise SMR, Regional and Hydrogen segments with a strong emphasis on sustainability.   ✈️With these innovations, we aim to reduce net-GHG emissions down to an average of 86% thanks to an improved efficiency of 30% from aircraft technological innovations at aircraft level and the use of SAF and Hydrogen. By 2030, we expect these technologies to reach #TRL6, paving the way for disruptive new products and services, ready for Entry in Service by 2035.   In the words of Rosalinde van der Vlies, Chair Clean Aviation, European Commission Director of Clean Planet, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation states: "Decarbonising aviation in Europe relies significantly on investments in research and innovation, as well as strong coordinated approach at EU, national and regional level. This updated Clean Aviation Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda should serve as a compass for both the public and private sector in Europe, guiding the development of future disruptive aircraft technologies.
