What do students really think about T Levels? In January 2023, the Edge Foundation in collaboration with Professor Kevin Orr commenced a qualitative research project, taking a deep dive into the experiences and viewpoints of learners across various T Level courses. We explored their day-to-day college experiences with their course, work placements, aspirations, and their perspectives on achieving career goals post-T Level completion. https://lnkd.in/eDCRi-k8

This week, #TLevelsWeek has been truly inspiring, reading all about the incredible work happening nationwide by students, teachers, providers, employers and many more organisations. It raises one simple question, Why wouldn’t you get involved with T Levels in any way you can? ⭐️ They are top-quality qualifications offering both depth and breadth in their curriculum. ⭐️ They feature rigorous external assessments to ensure high standards. ⭐️ They equip students with essential employability and life skills. ⭐️ They prepare learners for further academic study and careers. ⭐️ They are different and this difference should be celebrated, they stand out positively from other courses at this level. ⭐️ They are the most advanced technical qualifications this country has ever seen. ⭐️ They are exactly what industry needs and wants. Edge Foundation's interim report reveals concerning findings about students' perceptions and experiences of T Levels. It highlights problems young people have experienced - from not feeling fully informed on further education opportunities at the application stage, to issues in the quality of education offered. Particularly worryingly, some students are apprehensive about the opportunities available to them after completion. It's no surprise to us that students’ favourite part of #TLevels is their industry placement. Our work with young people spotlights the significant impact and fulfilment young people experience during #workexperience placements: which is fundamental to providing skills, knowledge and motivation for future careers. Our ambition is to ensure all young people have equal access to opportunities. Further education must create, not close down, opportunities for young people. For T Levels to meet their aims, teachers and employers need to be confidently able to support students so they become knowledgeable, skilled and ready to launch into their chosen employment pathways.
