Whether it be the lack of face-time with instructors and other students or the sense of isolation #onlinelearners experience, your online students struggle more than those in face-to-face courses — and part of the reason is attributed to the loss of natural interaction and community they would experience in an on-campus lab. 💪Don’t underestimate the power of building community. 💡When a class becomes a community, students change from being passive learners to active learners. 💡Building community also changes the class experience from impersonal to personal. And a hefty amount of educational research highlights the benefits of #collaborativelearning and community building 💡A national study of more than 80,000 first-year and senior college students found that participating in a learning community, where a group of students takes multiple classes together, was associated with higher levels of #studentengagement, satisfaction and #learningoutcomes. When students feel they belong to a class community, they are more likely to be motivated to complete class work, feel safe enough to ask questions or for more help, and be open to feedback that can help them improve. Here are some tips to help you enable community in your #onlinecourse

The teacher shortage crisis is one of the most pressing challenges in education today. However, it's inspiring to witness the transformative power of technology in addressing this issue head-on. This is why I was inspired to start Proximity - I saw firsthand how impactful technology can be when it's implemented well and doesn't take the TEACHER out of TEACHING! Here are a few ways it's making a profound impact on the teacher shortage crisis: 🍎 Access to Quality Education: EdTech tools provide access to quality education in areas where there's a shortage of teachers. Virtual classrooms and online courses bridge geographical gaps. 🍎 Personalized Learning: Technology allows for personalized learning experiences, reducing the burden on teachers and enhancing the learning process. 🍎 Teacher Support: EdTech doesn't replace teachers; it empowers them. Online resources, professional development courses, and collaborative platforms support educators in honing their skills and staying up-to-date with the latest teaching methodologies. 🍎 Efficiency and Time Savings: Automating administrative tasks through EdTech frees up teachers' time to focus on what truly matters: teaching. This increased efficiency can mitigate the burnout often associated with the profession. As we navigate the evolving landscape of education, let's celebrate the positive impact of technology in our mission to ensure every student has access to an excellent education. Fully remote classes can be highly beneficial to those with a hectic work/life schedule, but do students learn and understand the material the same way they would in a physical classroom? Many students think not. 50% of learners think their comprehension of course material would be lower when taking a course online, compared to the 18% who think it would be higher. Younger students (ages 16-25) and male students, especially, think their knowledge would be hindered by completing their coursework online. #studentdata #communitycollege #2yearcollegeexperts #mediaprefs
