Hidden in this illustration are nods to the titles on our summer reading list. Can you spot them all?
2024 marks the centennial of the History of Science Society (HSS). For 100 years, HSS members have written accounts of science as human endeavor and cultural phenomenon. A now-vast bibliography reflects the diversity of the sciences, the local forces and global exchanges that shape their development, and the evolving methods and questions that drive historical inquiry. For this year’s summer reading list, HSS asked 10 of their book prize winners to choose the books they would recommend to Science readers.
Learn about the context of the science that came before our modern understandings: stories of medicine, ancient culture, technology, standard measurements, and philosophy. Can you find all nine hidden symbols that correspond to these titles?
