Director at BE360 | Father | Kāi Tahu | Tuaefu | Wellbeing Consultant | Mental Health First Aid Instructor
Last year, New Zealand’s construction sector saw 80 suspected suicides - the highest on record. As Mental Health Awareness Week approaches, this serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of addressing mental health in the workplace. At BE360, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with the construction industry, achieving impactful results. Our collaboration with the Te Ahu a Turanga team was a standout. They laid a strong foundation for open conversations about mental health, creating the psychological safety needed for our mahi to resonate with their people. Unfortunately, not all organisations place the same priority on mental health and wellbeing, but times are changing. To truly make a difference, we need to shift our focus towards preventative measures. Embedding wellbeing strategies, practices, and execution will be key in reducing the risk of these devastating statistics from rising further. Let's evolve our thinking and commit to a future where mental health is an integral part of every workplace.
Hear from Kaye, Health & Wellbeing Lead for Te Ahu a Turanga, as she shares her powerful experience working with BE360 to deliver Mental Health First Aid Courses to their team and contractors. The 3-year accreditation has been a game changer, equipping their people with the tools to support not only colleagues but also friends and whānau. By breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, these courses have empowered participants to have mana-enhancing conversations, breaking down barriers and opening the door for progress. #MentalHealth #BE360 #WellbeingAtWork #BreakingBarriers #SupportingWhānau

One for mental health colleagues 👇 Public Health Scotland has published a review of national learning programmes on mental health and suicide prevention provided in Scotland. It looks at the current training landscape in Scotland and determines what further work is needed. I especially liked the breakdown of courses - you can see how many Scotland's Mental Health First Aid courses are running and who is taking part. Worth a look. #MentalHealth #Training #SuicidePrevention https://lnkd.in/e_DmeNzF

As we mark Mental Health Awareness Week, it's a crucial time to reflect on our mental well-being and that of those around us. Did you know that one in four people will experience a mental health problem each year? Employers have a legal duty of care to support employees' mental health. This includes risk assessments and reasonable adjustments under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and equalities legislation. While physical first aid is mandatory, mental health first aid isn't - yet. A new Bill, reintroduced in January 2023, aims to change this, making mental health first aid training a legal requirement in all workplaces. Discover more about the role of mental health first aiders and how to support your team in our latest blog by Paola Casagrande CEng FIStructE 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eSBvd_xa #MentalHealth #WorkplaceWellbeing #HealthAndSafety #FirstAid #StructuralEngineering
