Last December 2023, the University Network for Innovation, Technology, and Engineering (Unite!) published a handbook to discuss the best practices on open science and innovation. A product of an in-depth comparative case study involving 70 research teams across seven European universities, it unveils practical guidelines for embracing open science and innovation practice to further develop a new governance model tailored for universities in the digital era. The handbook highlights open protocol sharing, or making the entire research design transparent and accessible. One of the people who was interviewed was our director, Dr. Hans Rocha IJzerman. He emphasized the crucial role of the Open Science Framework (OSF) platform in making open science work (and did you know that Dr. Hans Rocha IJzerman was the OSF’s 12th registered user?!?). At ABSL, we prioritize registered reports for confirmatory research, along with sharing analysis scripts and utilizing the OSF for the reproducibility of one’s work. Without such rigor, it is hard to trust the accuracy of scientific research. At ABSL, we don't just advocate for open science; we live it. Our commitment to openness and transparency is not just a core value but a driving force behind our research initiatives. Join our open science lectures and workshops, tailored for researchers and professionals alike. Whether you're experienced or new to the field, our services empower you in your open science journey. Additionally, we extend our assistance to companies or organizations ready to learn more about open science. 💡 Embrace open science with us and contribute to a global movement valuing transparency, openness, and innovation. 🌐 Read more about the handbook here: https://lnkd.in/dUYka2jY #ABSL #openscience

Grant winner 5 of 5! 📣 Name 👤: John J. Han Education 🏫: McGill University Proposal 📜: Many people fail to recognise their vulnerability to bias and are reluctant to receive extraneous interventions that are designed to promote debiasing. One reason for this reluctance is the cognitive barrier that suppresses one’s responsiveness to debiasing procedures. My study aims to provide evidence that people can self-correct and reduce their susceptibility to bias with experience over time. Gorilla tool 🛠️: Game Builder How will winning the Gorilla X CloudResearch grant support your research? 🧐 ⭐️ I am very much looking forward to this opportunity to develop studies using the Gorilla Experiment Builder as well as the prospect of showing others about the co-existence of user-friendliness and scientific rigor.

I’m happy to recognize three years at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory today. Yippie! Truth be told, I’m just glad to be part of a wonderful team! It’s been a year of insights for me. Mostly, I learned a little more about myself; that my past has made the present moment meaningful for me. These days, I write about people and the causes they champion at a national lab. Cool. But wherever apt, I also color my work with lessons from my training in the history of science discipline. Alright. And why the coloration by an obscure discipline? Welp, turns out that history and science have a lot in common. I’m drawn to their symbiosis – the doers who think, the systems that organize, and the structures that enable and constrain. And can’t forget to mention the variation of these things across time. Also, I can’t help myself. I'm a student of the complexities of large organizations, particularly of the scientific kind, observing the mechanisms and people that make them what they are today. I guess it’s fitting that my path to this point has not been straight and narrow. More like crooked and obtuse – by Jove, complex! I’m a believer in playing the hand we’re dealt and leveraging it where appropriate. And that includes lessons from my sojourns in academic departments at universities, archival collections at arts foundations, social causes at nonprofits, working groups in STEM and research efforts in historical studies. And what did that zig-zagging amount to? Why a meaningful career at SLAC, of course! Happy work-iversary, June 14! #careers #communications #histsci #personaldevelopment

🔐 Unlocking the Secrets of Scientific Shifts: Are Transitions the Hidden Architects of Progress? 📈 At the UM6P Science Week, Mr. Raphael Liogier, Scientific Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies, delved into the nuanced concept of scientific transitions, emphasizing a distinction often overlooked. Mr. Liogier challenged the common conflation of transition with evolution or gradual change, asserting that transition is about stability until a tipping point is reached. He painted a vivid picture of a system in balance, suggesting that the status quo remains until a sudden collapse or breakthrough occurs. It is in this moment that a new reality emerges, drastically different from what preceded it, defying anticipation just seconds prior. Mr. Liogier emphasized that transition is not the ongoing evolution itself, but rather the transformative leap that occurs when evolution reaches its limits, pushing the system beyond a threshold to redefine its equilibrium. The UM6P Science Week, an annual event with the theme "At the Frontiers of Science," provides a platform for such profound discussions. Centered around a trans-disciplinary symposium and augmented by conferences, reading circles, and exhibitions, the week aims to showcase UM6P's latest advancements. Renowned speakers gather in Benguerir to engage in stimulating debates with students, fostering an environment that encourages questioning, reflection, and the dissolution of disciplinary silos. This unique blend of intellectual exchange and knowledge dissemination places UM6P on the global stage of academia, reflecting its commitment to scientific research, teaching excellence, and the dissemination of knowledge. #AcademicDiscussions #Decoding #Research #ScientificTransitions #InnovationFrontiers #EvolutionVsTransition #MoroccoCanSucceed

Ken’s insights from decades of studying what good looks like and #ShigeoShingo teachings included that we in healthcare need to focus on flowing processes so caregivers have the TIME to care for the patients!! If those #worksystems and #processes aren’t putting the right materials in the right place at the right time so that people can deliver care… then that is the #improvement you should make first.
Starting Day 3 - Learning from the annual UC Berkeley - Center for Lean Engagement & Research (CLEAR) - Research Symposium- great organization and annual event - Ken Synder from the Shingo Institute is giving the first keynote.
