Finding People and Knowing People Now more than ever it’s essential that recruiters can demonstrate their value. Competition is fierce – not just from other recruiters, but from TA, RPO/MSP providers, even Ai these days, so your approach to the market needs to be compelling. To me, it’s the difference between finding people and knowing people. Finding people isn’t very hard anymore. Databases are not king anymore – LinkedIn is the biggest professional database there is – and everyone has a pass to the party. So value, to my mind, doesn’t come from the ‘finding’ – that’s a given with a decent recruiter, it comes from the ‘knowing’ – unless you’ve recruited chemical engineers for as long as I have (which is a long, long time), your network won’t be as good as mine. Your knowledge of the marketplace and the people within it won’t be as good as mine. Rates, availability, sector trends, knowing the strengths, weaknesses and motivations of your candidates – knowing who fits what and who wants to do what - this comes from years at the coalface and it’s why we all specialise in very specific areas of the market at Adepto. These days, anyone can make a fist of the ‘finding’ but ‘knowing’ makes the process quicker, more accurate, more efficient, much, much less of a hassle to the hiring company and the best recruiters will always have this key advantage. #recruiterlife #knowingpeople
