Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs) could change AI. This is an incredible theorem. Taking a multivariate function and decomposing it to the sum of single variable functions. This has the potential to effect how models approximate and learn from complex data.

what are your thoughts on this issue?

In a recent article, I wrote of the politico-systemic and jurisdictional orientation and model differences between, what I termed, the major 'nodal protagonists' inter alia, relating to the complex dynamic surrounding the alignment of the values and models necessary to produce an international agreement of substance. With regard to establishing an international accord on the responsible use of AI, I stated "... there is a long road ahead with many prospective difficulties and complexities to overcome. These issues subsist in the predicates of the different historical, ethno-cultural, ideological, economic, politico-regulatory, and legal models of the three main protagonists. Exemplifying this, the EU's rights-oriented, the US market-oriented, and China's sovereignty-oriented models are often at odds. These models will be difficult to align and yet the technologies and their impacts will know no national borders or jurisdictional boundaries. Of note, the nature of regulatory practicalities and proclivities are widely divergent. This includes the ability of governments to regulate, the degree to which the regulators may be intrusive (with a direct bearing on regulatory and outcome efficacy), governmental ability to balance social, economic, and competition policy, and to create space for economic and technology innovation and capacity building in each jurisdiction. The difficulties inherent in aligning interests and agreeing on standards are seen in the issues arising between EU members during [the recent round of] negotiation of the EU AI Act. The extent and efficacy of any future international agreement will rely on the development of and negotiation based on, shared interests, reasonable diplomatic perspective, calm and balanced engagement, limitation of egos, and flexible expectations. Emerging economies will also likely expect that frameworks for international law (negotiation, agreement, and implementation) reflect a broader perspective than has previously been the case in international legal frameworks." In the attached post, the World Economic Forum identifies the same issues that I have been researching, engaging with, and discussing with colleagues (academic and professional) over the past several years. This is a much-needed first step in recognising the context and interests at play in the 'quest for international alignment and agreement on AI principles and standards'. I will be sharing and writing on this further in the future. In less than a year, the phrase "AI-powered" has the same meaning as "Made in China", referring to low quality and lack of reliability. I wonder what 2024 will hold for AI's future..? Quality and reliability are key for mass adoption of Generative AI!
