Here’s a glimpse into one of our recent community engagement projects with Statesboro High School. When Coach Hall mentioned how much a tool shed would benefit his classroom and lab, we saw a great opportunity to collaborate with his level three construction class to bring it to life. We kicked off the project right here on Sack’s campus, giving the students a chance to dive into our culture before they completed the shed at their school. It’s been an incredible experience watching them work together, build memories, and develop a strong work ethic. This initiative was all about fostering a relationship with SHS, which is right in our backyard, and helping guide these students toward a potential career in construction after graduation. We’re thrilled to have already welcomed three of Coach Hall’s students to our team, showing them the opportunities that await in this industry. None of this would have been possible without the generous donation of materials from Howard Lumber & Hardware which truly brought this project to life. Check out this video below!

On this Labor Day, more often than not, we are continuing to grapple with shoestring resources that typically accrue for community organizing and capacity building efforts within public agency led processes. All in service of improving and strengthening our cities and regions: better access to food, homes, transit, parks, schools and jobs, stronger adaptation and resilience preparation to the ill effects of climate change and other emergent community needs. It doesn’t have to be this way. As novel examples illustrate well across several community constellations in California alone—Allensworth Progressive Association in Allensworth, 40 x 40 Council in Oakland, Santa Ana Shared Financing Collective in Santa Ana and others—communities are flipping the script and orchestrating the future of their own neighborhoods. When we as communities assert power and articulate our collective visions we can attract resources in abundance. This is no mirage! This is a snapshot of an alternate reality that can be true for more communities and must be a reason to not mourn but celebrate today—the promise held within community’s collective labor. #CommunityVision #CommunityPower #AbundantResources #LaborDay

It’s always nice to share good news about and from senior communities around the country. Frankly, good news comes my way much more frequently than I can keep up with, which is a sentence that put a smile on my face as I typed it. #seniorlivingnews #seniorcommunityforum #seniorliving #meadowridge

In our last post we talked about how property managers can help seniors. Now let's chat about how you can help families with school age children this Fall. As the new school year begins, families living in multi-unit residential buildings often face unique challenges getting their kids ready. Limited storage space, shared common areas, and lack of on-site facilities can make the back-to-school transition even more hectic. Here are some ways we can support these families and help make the back-to-school season a little easier: 1) Organize a donation drive for school supplies, backpacks, and other necessities. 2) Host after-school programs, homework help sessions, or tutoring in your communal space. 3) Coordinate to have a secure storage area for student belongings like sports equipment. 4) Plan community events like school supply swaps, parent info sessions, or family fun nights to build connections and support networks. UR Concierge Services is designed to help foster connection between managers, residents and the surrounding community. For a demo on how URCSI can help build your community connections, contact us at info@urcsi.com #propertymanagement #backtoschool #community #apartmentliving #condoliving #multiunit

Day 4 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth: A city at the edge. We believe that viewing Plymouth as a city on the edge allows us to embrace our past, bringing it forward in a positive manner and tapping into the potential found in the transitional #liminal spaces - amidst our dialogue, between people, and between organisations. Exciting! At the edge geographically, at the edge of the ocean, the edge of the county, in the far south west of the country. Practically, at the edge of power and on the edge (including the forefront) of practice. At the edge of intersecting communities, it holds the strengths and tensions and benefits of being a military, university, and working class city all at once. Historically, it has been a valued friend to #power (see its naval history), a neglected friend (see the Plymouth blitz and its silencing) and also a rebellious enemy (see the Siege of Plymouth) of power. A city of many neighbourhoods, it hosts both prosperity and deprivation in differing forms - indeed, where there may not be material wealth there is often community wealth. Welcomeness, civic action, determination, grit and mutual support are a key part of the city’s social character. This is seen in POP’s membership of 380 active and diverse groups and that 26% of adult residents in Plymouth volunteer at least once per month. Reviving East Oakland: A $100 Million Plan for Change 🖤💚🤍 Reading this article warmed my heart, as it reminded me of the Oakland I grew up in—deep East Oakland, a place that once thrived and now struggles under the weight of systemic issues. While I’m now in Brooklyn, the parallels between these communities are undeniable. Both have been shaped by the same structural forces that have caused so much pain, yet both hold immense potential for rebirth. The $100 million Rise East initiative, led by community members with deep roots in East Oakland, is a powerful testament to what’s possible when we invest in our people and our neighborhoods. The energy and determination to rebuild and transform is palpable—and it's a reminder that we have the power to shape our own futures. As the author mentions, this is more than just a financial investment—it's about reclaiming the spirit and resilience that once defined our neighborhoods. We’ve rebuilt our communities before, and we will do it again, showing the world what we’re capable of. Let’s support efforts like Rise East and all initiatives that prioritize community-led solutions. Together, we can rewrite the narrative and create lasting change. In this capitalist, sales, productivity driven society, we often dismiss important, but unpaid labor, such as activism, creating art, and caregiving. I watched Megan take on the below mentioned campaign via Instagram last year, and I also love the message she has posted here. It really makes you question how we assign value to individuals in the professional world based on position; rather than, actual life experience of the individual, which in my experience actually results in a more well-rounded, ethical, and mature human being. How are professional labels and measures holding you back from identifying and working with other quality human beings? How are these judgements about what constitutes work holding you back? #professionalstandards #unconventionalwork #activism #grassroots #housing #anticapitalist
While this experience won't go on my LinkedIn profile, wasn't compensated, and isn't seen as 'work' to many, the skills I gained from it are incredibly valuable👇 I spent a year and a half trying to save my affordable, purpose-built rental building. Between myself and my incredible tenants association, we donated *thousands of hours* to organizing. Every Monday night for over a year, we gathered in the laundry room, thoughtfully debating what our next steps should be. We organized multiple building events, protests, and gatherings to build solidarity among tenants. We organized newsletters, multiple surveys, and put together a position paper we are incredibly proud of. 👉 We went up against a multi-billion dollar developer, and even though the odds were stacked against us, we won. We didn't save the building, but we negotiated terms and conditions that will improve outcomes for tenants that would never have been achieved otherwise. 👈 This work, and as an extension, my work with www.nodemovictions.ca, is some of the most fulfilling work I've ever done.

SATURDAY MORNING (NOVEMBER 2ND) at 8:30 AM our amazing Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be cleaning up the community once again! In honor of Kenny "Fanatic" Hogan, for this Community Clean-Up (PHX), our volunteers will be meeting up in the parking lot of Rodriguez Boxing Club, located at 1350 W Roosevelt St Phoenix, AZ 85007 to clean up Roosevelt St. from 7th Ave to 19th Ave. NO OPEN-TOED SHOES Cleaning up loose trash is one of the best ways to pitch in for your community and the environment. Volunteering as a means to help conserve and protect the environment has a lot of upsides. Of course, the first is that you’ll be taking care of our planet, and it badly needs a little love given the myriad ways in which we’ve become adept at destroying it. But beyond that, volunteering for a cause you care about is a great way to meet like-minded people, make friends, and pull yourself out of the blues that sometimes accompany caring a lot about something important – especially if you feel alone in your endeavors. None of us like the sight of litter. Litter spoils the look of where we live but that’s not the only reason for picking up litter. There are a number of benefits from picking up litter that you may not have considered before. Volunteer-led projects such as these are one of the quickest, simplest, and least expensive ways to inspire more community spirit and civic action. A visually appealing community increases property values, attracts businesses, and improves the neighborhood's image. Beauty is one of the three most influential factors in community attachment, which means loyalty, to your particular town or city. Some research even shows that a nice-looking neighborhood promotes good behavior. Join us in keeping the community clean! For more information: https://lnkd.in/gZ-AVEuh #TeamWhoIAm_Phoenix
