In late October, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the leading standard for palm oil, released a 37-page draft of a new set of rules. RSPO’s standards, which are finalised through consensus among growers, consumer goods firms, retailers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), are called the RSPO principles and criteria (P&C). They are reviewed every five years. This latest version of the P&C, which will be effective from 13 November 2025, features commitments to protect forests and peatlands, reduce the climate impact of the industry, and safeguard the rights of workers, Indigenous groups, local communities and environmental defenders. Joining the Eco-Business Podcast to discuss the changes is RSPO’s director of standards and sustainability, HS Yen, a data scientist who joined the organisation a few months before the last P&C was launched in 2018. As global leaders gather at the UN Summit for the Future, one thing is clear: securing access to clean water is essential for sustainable development. However, 2.2 billion people globally still lack access to safely managed drinking water. With PFAS standing in the way, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Tackling water contamination is critical, especially with the Declaration on Future Generations calling for urgent action on pollution and water scarcity. Despite this, only 17% of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are on track, highlighting the need for immediate change. At Agilent, we’re doing our part, delivering complete PFAS workflows that detect PFAS at trace levels, helping regulators and industries protect our water and secure a sustainable future for generations to come. "There is no point setting targets without plans for how to deliver these." This was my key takeaway from Rt Hon Steve Reed OBE MP at the Green Alliance summer reception today, and this is exactly what we do at WRAP! WRAPs voluntary agreements with value chains set out not just targets, but pathways to their delivery. Below is an example of the pathway to tackling #greenhousegasemissions from our #food system. You can find out more on how we need to change our systems to deliver environmental change here: https://lnkd.in/emmV7FRr

We ended 2024 on a high note, securing a Silver Sustainability Scorecard with EcoVadis, the globally trusted provider of business sustainability ratings. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our teams across our water, waste and energy services, we showcased how our sustainability principles are embedded across all of our activities and systems. I'm proud to share that we were commended for our advanced management of environmental and ethical issues which goes to show that we are living up to our promise of delivering ecological transformation which seeks to reconcile human progress with environmental protection. By enshrining sustainability at the core of what we do at Veolia UK we can lead by example and show that economic growth and environmental protection isn’t a zero sum game. In 2025, let's aim for gold! #EcologicalTransformation #Sustainability #ESG

See below: Ecopreneur.eu - The European Sustainable Business Federation is one of the business organisations supporting the adopted European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety motion objecting to the proposed mass balance method for recycled content calculation in the Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD). Next step is a plenary vote in the European Parliament. Crucial for creating a well-functioning EU market with a level playing field for mechanical and chemical recycling. https://lnkd.in/eCZf_-VT
