Despite major steps forward in diversity, equity, and inclusion, many nonprofit boards are “overwhelmingly white.” This happens not because of the failure of any individual policy or initiative, but rather a pervasive system of reward and recognition that has been influenced by historical legacies of racism that persist to this day. What does it mean that vast bulk of the sector can't turn to traditional #philanthropy partners to accomplish their missions because they are "too small?" What do we miss when we overlook the impacts of neighborhood-based social change leaders?
