I may not be wearing a shade of purple today, but I embrace all shades of womanhood every single day.
In last decade or so I have seen more and more organisations making special efforts to make women feel special around women’s day. Some do it because they believe in it, and some do it because everybody is doing it. Some celebrate it with a bang, some do it in a modest way (because budget cuts are real)
Some celebrate a day, some celebrate a week or sometimes an entire month - telling women that you are powerful, you are equal, you are celebrated. Many counterparts would often be heard jokingly say, “Is there a men’s day too?” “I will come to the event for the cake, the speech is for women”
A few reflections came along the way-
1. Women don’t need education alone, they need equal opportunities
2. The ecosystem needs sensitisation - To enable the flower to grow, don’t fix the flower, fix the environment
3. Women do not need special rights or treatment, they just need equal rights and equal treatment
4. It doesn’t stop at having women gathered around the table to cheer for themselves and eat the cake, it’s time that more and more of them have a seat at the table
What we must celebrate today is our journey together of how far we have come as a society making this world a better place for women, and recognise there’s miles to go! #happywomensday
Talking of equality, we must celebrate Men’s day too with equal rigour because we are all equal, and totally worth it! #topvoice #inclusiveleadership
