I've been surfing for over 30 years now; it's still the hardest thing I do outside, and I'm still pretty crap at it; living in the mountains doesn't help. To really get good at something, there are no shortcuts; rather, the shortcut IS doing the work! But we can all be learners... There is a fresh wave (an avalanche even) of Integrated Form of Agreement (#IFOA) work out there; a welcome 'problem' we have been advocating for, and now we find ourselves stretching to serve. We are reaching for good learning beyond the steady school of hard knocks to build our skills faster in this better, more collaborative way of working. Our team at Clark Builders has been crushing an Advanced Integrated Project Delivery certificate course offered by Lean IPD, exposing us to further nuances of IPD contract structures, how to create a collaborative culture, and which lean construction tools to use for project success. Continuous Professional Development Structures Perit Milan Zdravkovic Yesterday another interesting CPD was organised by MCCM shedding light to all those present on the importance of the understanding of architectural structures design and its significance throughout project stages emphasising its importance for project managers across the construction industry. The event was hosted by Perit Milan  Zdravkovic a specialist in structural engineering who holds also a vast experience in project management. The event aim was to bridge the gap between these two disciplines, highlighting how architectural structure awareness can enhance project outcomes from conception to completion. At the heart of the discussion was the recognition that architectural design serves as the foundation upon which successful projects are built. Project managers (Built Environment) who possess a deep understanding of architectural principles can better navigate challenges and make informed decisions at every stage of a project's lifecycle. In today's continuous evolving scenario within our local sector, the integration of architectural structure awareness into project management practices is no longer optional—it's essential for the project manager to stay ahead of the curve. One of MCCM’s beliefs is that as projects become increasingly complex and multidimensional, project managers who embrace this holistic approach will emerge as leaders in their field, delivering exceptional results and driving innovation forward. Lean Construction Ireland Webinar Title: Lean Process Implementation for Capital Projects in the Further Education Sector – A Funding Agency Perspective Presented By: Dr Avril Behan - Director, FET College of the Future - SOLAS Facilitated By: Derek Sinnott BE MSc PhD MIEI CSM® M Inst D - Director - Lean Construction Ireland Date & Time: 25/04/2024 - 15:00 GMT Overview: SOLAS are currently funding Ireland’s first capital call for the Further Education and Training (FET) sector. Through this call, significant investment is being made in the improvement and replacement of building stock across Ireland and in the delivery of new FET campuses. These properties will serve learners from age 16 upwards – early school leavers, returners, lifelong learners both in and outside of employment, and school leavers (Post Leaving Certificate). Value for these learners and the staff who assist them on their pathways is found in facilities that are welcoming, fit-for-purpose, and accessible to all who want access. Translating this definition of value proposition, via the Infrastructure Guidelines, the Capital Works Management Framework, and a grant-awards process, into a lean continuous improvement cycle is not an easy task. However, using the opportunity of the integration of BIM and the International Construction Management Standards (ICMS) into the CWMF, SOLAS has commenced work on incorporating lean thinking and practices, digitalisation, and a commitment to sustainability into its workflows and practices.
