At Restitute we provide assistance to families in all stages of their pursuit for justice, from their very first interactions with police and other official organisations to criminal trials and beyond. The outcomes may not always seem fair, but we aim to equip families for any result so that they can transition smoothly, regardless of the conclusion. https://buff.ly/3TmJs7I

I have been asked on so many occasions what I enjoy most about my job. It is, without a doubt, my work with the Mental Health Court. I have seen so many men and women overcome tremendous obstacles and finally beat decades long addictions, get their mental health stabilized, get their medical needs addressed, get an education, find stable employment and a stable living environment. I have seen the tremendous difference it makes when you take the time to look at the people before you and provide a holistic approach to ending the cycle of recidivism and the positive impact it has on their families and our community at large. According to Michigan's 2023 Financial Year report for Problem Solving Courts, FY 2023 adult drug court graduates were 4 times less likely, sobriety court graduates were more than 3 times less likely, and hybrid court graduates were nearly 3 times less likely to be convicted of a new offense within three years of admission to a program. In FY 2023, mental health court (MHC) graduates were far less likely to commit another crime. On average, MHC graduates (adult circuit, adult district) were around 2 times less likely to commit another crime within three years of admission to a program. Also, unemployment among adult circuit MHC graduates dropped by 88 percent. I look forward to many more years of this service. Assistant Federal Public Defender, Capital Habeas Unit, Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Pennsylvania
As a former Brennan Center for Justice voting rights attorney, I was thrilled to be part of this litigation team, and I'm excited for my former clients - this is a big trial court victory! But the defendants will likely appeal, focusing on the court's reading of the Purcell principle. I think defendants will likely argue for a broader interpretation of Purcell that encompasses the canvassing restriction’s role in Texas’ overall electoral framework, rather than changes in election laws that, as the opinion states, “directly alter the mechanics and procedures of voting itself.” As defenders of voter suppression laws often argue, defendants here will probably assert that Purcell applies to election-related rules and enforcement actions that, while not governing the act of voting itself, significantly influence “election integrity.” The fate of the injunction may depend on whether the Fifth Circuit will exercise judicial integrity to resist the invitation to expand Purcell’s application and overturn the lower court's extensive 78-page ruling, which is based on numerous findings of fact from a lengthy trial.
BREAKING: a federal court struck down a vague provision of Texas’s S.B. 1 that effectively criminalized door-to-door canvassing for ballot initiatives. This is a huge victory!
