2024 continued to be a turbulent year for #European #FinTech. By addressing this £63bn problem, the UK can solidify its position as a global Fintech leader. It was a pleasure to attend the FinTech North Leeds Conference 2024 yesterday, and to hear from such a passionate range of speakers on the rapidly growing sector. Here are some of my main takeaways from the day: 🔸London Bridge is falling down! - The UK has the 2nd biggest global Fintech market of £6.6bn (beaten only by the US) and it is becoming less London-centric by the day, with Northern cities like Leeds increasingly taking the reigns. 🏙🏭 🔸Diversity really is a driver of performance - Whitecap Consulting's recent report, 'Scaling UK Regional Fintech', found that firms with at least one female founder had 30% higher turnover growth than firms with male only founders. 📈 🔸CBDCs are (probably) coming - The current plans are to run them on a public-private model with the BoE at the core, and for the currency to supplement but not entirely replace cash. Contrary to popular belief, they won't limit spending choices, but they also won't be anonymous...💷💻 #FinTech #FinTechNorth #CBDC #Leeds

FinTech deals are showing signs of recovery, with a notable increase in investment in UK FinTech during the first half of 2024. However, it is prudent to exercise caution and not celebrate prematurely. While the resurgence appears promising, experts advise against excessive optimism. The apparent rebound may be encouraging, but underlying challenges and uncertainties persist. It is essential to critically assess the long-term viability of this uptick in investment before drawing definitive conclusions about the sector’s overall health and stability. #FinTech #Investment #FutureOfFinance
