As I prepare to watch today's #debate between Biden and Trump, I’m reminded of a poignant cartoon from a past presidential debate. In 2012, Tom Toro captured a moment that resonates even more deeply today. The cartoon shows a man in a ragged suit by a campfire, telling children, "Yes, the planet got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time we created a lot of value for shareholders." As we tune into the debate, let's keep in mind the pressing issues we face and vote for what matters most. https://lnkd.in/gx-Z2j8m #Sustainability #ShareholderValue

Trump has done a lot of bad things and will continue to do even worse things if he's re-elected -- FAR, far worse. That alone is a reason to vote to prevent him from re-entering the White House and trying to finish his attempted coup. One of the things he's done, inadvertently, perhaps, is to force us to take our eye off the ball and concentrate on voting against him instead of FOR someone and something. And it's allowed his opponents to use him as a reason to vote for them, instead of coming up with an actual REASON to vote for them. Harris wants to allow fracking to continue. Really consider that. A supposed liberal, a supposed champion of the environment allowing fracking to continue. I understand voting against Trump, because a vote against Trump is a vote against fascism and against hatred and insanity. So sure... vote for Harris and Walz. But in the process, ask yourself and them what they stand for. Will they declare a national climate-change emergency and start treating the existential environmental emergency with the importance, the desperate importance, it deserves? A refusal to ban fracking suggests that she and he and they will NOT treat it with the importance that it deserves. Hold their feet to the fire and do not become that cult member who falls in love with the rhetoric instead of demanding actual action. It USED to be "about the economy, stupid." Now it's about the environment, dummy. And Harris just failed her first test. Yes, vote for her, but put her feet to the fire and watch her, to make sure she doesn't fail any further tests.

Do we really live in a democratic society? Do we really have a choice? For those that know me , you’ll understand that I don’t get involved in politics… but… right now all I see in front of me is policy I don’t agree with or no policy… that’s what I have to vote for in July… My thoughts, if it’s truly democratic, chosen by the people, for the people, we should have an option on the ballot paper that says; ‘None of the above’ ✅ This way, if enough people didn’t trust the people on the ballot paper, the people given the privilege of power would have to go back to the drawing board and re think until the people came to a consensus. For me, I truly believe that small businesses change the world… right now, there are zero policies promoting it, only making it more difficult and far more favourable for multi national corporations. What are your thoughts? What would make our government more democratic? Happy Saturday people.

Here comes George Soros son- so let's just put it all out on the table since George Soros is for climate change. Trump wants to drill baby drill. Soros backs certain politicians and we need to vote them OUT Article-Progressive megadonor George Soros's son and heir to his enterprise advised Democrats on Friday to emphasize former President Trump's status as a "convicted felon," after he was found guilty by a New York jury on charges filed by a district attorney that the powerful Soros family helped elect. https://lnkd.in/gYQN3tei #trump #biden #soros #politics #fox #climatechange #money #investing #greenenergy #venturecapital #inflation #sales #salesleadership #salestips #economy #desantis #trumptrial

SHAMELESS: Republicans’ Deliberate Dysfunction and the Battle to Preserve Democracy - https://lnkd.in/ggTksQKn Brian Tyler Cohen takes a step back from the day-to-day news cycle to explain how American politics has turned into such a dumpster fire—and what Democrats need to do to get us out of it. In Shameless, Brian Tyler Cohen lays bare the long con of the modern Republican Party. While the radical right continues hiding behind gaslighting maneuvers, artificial slogans, and hollow catchphrases, Cohen’s unflinching narrative illuminates the realities and dangers of the ever-widening gulf between the vaunted Republican brand and their actual behavior. With a foreword by Congressman Jamie Raskin, drawing on interviews and insights from Pete Buttigieg, Mehdi Hasan, Jen Psaki, and other luminaries of the Left, Cohen reveals: How Republicans have leaned on their historical branding to give themselves a permission structure to behave antithetically to everything they say; Why the mainstream media has proved itself a willing participant in this ongoing farce— particularly since the rise of toxic, sensationalist MAGA mania; and What lessons Democrats can glean from a clear-eyed view of the landscape we’re operating in—and the steps we must take to rebalance our political landscape. During this all-hands-on-deck moment in our history, Shameless is essential reading for those seeking to understand our dire situation, and a rallying cry for those fighting to preserve democracy.

Another day when thinking people step forward to denounce political violence, and so they should. But will anyone address the factors contributing to such violence? For instance, by: • Lowering aggressive political rhetoric which is undermining democratic institutions (elections, legislatures and legislators, courts, the press) and fueling polarization, anger, even despair? • Reducing the normalization of violence in high-bodycount "entertainment" that desensitizes the public, especially our kids? • More aggressively combating the disinformation which breeds ignorance, misunderstanding and distrust? • Quit producing and selling military-grade weapons to civilians? There is a long undercurrent of political violence associated with the Trump phenomenon, from Charlottesville to the storming of the Capitol. (Canada and Europe have our own echos, albeit less severe, in the convoys, and in outbreaks of anti-semitic violence.) The word "shocked" is being widely used today. But is anyone actually surprised that the drift towards political violence can incubate the potential to inspire something like yesterday's near-tragedy? Warnings have been sounded for years... Our politics and politicians have a responsibility to unite rather than divide us. This is not a simple equation in an era when political campaigns routinely develop and deploy highly-systematized wedge issues explicitly designed to appeal to narrow constituencies. What gets sacrificed in that game are the appeals to our "common good" and to national unity which are essential features of successful societies and nations. Fortunately, tragedy was (very) narrowly averted yesterday. But the culture of violence linked to recent events demands our attention. Denouncing tragic incidents is not enough: changed political rhetoric, different behaviour and concrete actions are needed across the political spectrum to address the root causes of division and distrust.
