Professionalism “Conducting oneself with responsibility, integrity, accountability, and excellence”. Something we always strive for at Stratum Masonry and I’ve always lived by the phrase, its not who you know, it’s who knows you. You never know who is watching. Whether it be someone driving past a site, Scrolling on a social media post, First impressions are everything in business and in the digital age we live in, we have a matter of seconds to make them count. What does being professional mean to you? "𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙚, 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚, 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚." #restoration #stonemasonry #conservation #stratummasonry #stonemasonglasgow #stonemason

Impact damaged wall now rebuilt, We recently rebuilt this impact damaged wall on this busy corner of a junction in the Glasgow area. All stonework taken down safely and set aside for re-use. New stonework had to be supplied where required which involved these curved splayed copes All walling rebuilt with a lime mortar mix and our client was delighted with the finished results. You have to get your car checked for faults and MOT’d every year… your building is no different. Get your building checked on a regular basis, you might be surprised with what is found and prevented.
Wowzers! Are you inspecting your buildings ? #buildingsurvey #survey #buildinginspection #inspection #buildings #safety

Moisture and stonework… Natural sandstone is a porous material, this can sometimes help identify issues with other building elements from time to time... Just like this small downpipe which was fractured in multiple places, the constant moisture being noted in the corner of this bay window made is easy to identify the issue and allowed our clients to make the decision to get this replaced. We always recommend our clients having their rainwater goods being checked over on a regular basis. PS. it’s also nice to see our stonework settling in well to its surroundings. Delighted to complete this project over in Mount Florida This is one of several homes we’ve brought back to life in this area, This project had all aspects of masonry work taken care of by team Stratum. Lime pointing, stone repair and stone cleaning were all undertaken as part of our work scope. It’s been a pleasure helping our client with transforming their home back to how it would have looked historically. Monday thoughts… I believe trust is a two-way street, One business or person has to earn the trust of the other It must be demonstrated over time and usually earnt as a result of continually tasks/activities that are agreed upon. Your ‘word’ is a something I was brought up with, now becoming a thing of the past… In today's world your word is more important than ever, it forms part of who you are and whilst money etc will come and go in life, who you are as a person will always leave an impression on others... Whether that’s good or bad is all down to you. Job progress... With the hessian covers now off the remaining sections of stonework, we can see the result of our team’s hard work. Using hessian is a must when the weather is so unpredictable at the moment. It allows the lime mortar to cure properly. Along with fresh lime mortar, you can also see that we have carried out minor repairs using a colour matched lime mortar, recreating the historic details of the surrounding stonework. Huge shoutout to our team for the work they have carried out on this project. Sometimes you can’t save it all... Taking out historic stone and replacing it with new, These units were tricky given the significant movement the building had suffered. This is the joy of restoration, you have to accommodate the existing conditions on a structure to allow the new masonry to be installed. One year on... Just like all our projects, we hope you can see the care, time and attention our team put into this one! One of the most satisfying things about working in Stonemasonry is being able to stand back and take in/appreciate what you and the team have done when the work is over. Knowing you are a part of the buildings history and ensuring it lasts for many years to come. If you have a sandstone building that needs attention, please get in touch. I know I bang on about this a lot... but someone has to... What does the future of traditional crafts hold? I regularly see articles about historical sites having to shut due to safety concerns. With a decline in people entering the traditional trades industry what is the solution? College’s not running courses anymore, Advanced craft now isn’t running in Glasgow for this year at least… We need more people coming through The more people coming through the apprenticeship route means more qualified tradespeople caring for our historic landmarks. But how is this achievable when the government is cutting funding and colleges are stopping stonemasonry courses? What do you think we can do to solve this growing issue?
