This week, IWE Online features a review of Anjana Appachana's latest novel Fear and Lovely by T. Alma Poinamei, where she observes that "the novel remains a nuanced portrait of women and the intricacies of domestic life. Through the foregrounding of women and the quotidian events that shape their social ontology, Appachana portrays a crucial facet of India’s postcolonial reality." https://lnkd.in/gQJqwE9Q #EnglishLiteratureResources #MAEnglishLiterature #ReadingIWE #indianwriters #anjanaappachana #IWEOnline #IndianEnglishLiterature #MAEnglish #BookReviews #IndianNovelsinEnglish

After 20years of Purple Hibiscus and 60years of Things Fall Apart, I think the time is right to explore the literary and philosophical connection between them. This article dives into the the parallels between Okonkwo (Things Fall Apart) and Eugene (Purple Hibiscus) establishing how, especially regarding Sexism, Eugene is a literary reincarnation of Okonkwo. Do let me know what you think: https://lnkd.in/dV9rGbdU #NigerianLiterature #Chimamanda #ChinuaAchebe #NigerianWriters

Jungian Analyst, Ph.D., MFT, member of the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco & author of "Spiritual Democracy: The Wisdom of Early American Visionaries for the Journey Forward" (2014). ISBN: 978-1-58394-833-0.
Spiritual Democracy is an idea whose time has come. It is uniquely American, founded upon the Iroquois myth of the Peacemaker, and it found its most eloquent voice in early American poetry. It exists in three stages: 1) political, 2) economic, and 3) religious. Spiritual Democracy is linked to the cosmic science of nineteenth century naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, whose work Walt Whitman, Herman Melville, and Emily Dickinson were all aware of. It is found in the pragmatism of William James and the works of C.G. Jung. Spiritual Democracy is an ideal that involves making the shadow conscious; it is not a condition of peace alone. Spiritual Democracy advocates responsibly living out one's vocation as a path of sacred action. Today we need to understand the foundation stone of Spiritual Democracy, which is central to the mythos of America, to combat the toxic political climate in which we are living. #spiritualdemocracy, #cgjung, #waltwhitman, #hermanmelville, #emilydickinson, #williamjames https://lnkd.in/dEdFrfaT

TORN BETWEEN A novel by JB. Omukangala. Torn Between is a multicultural novel, rotating from Luhya to Meru to Maa regions of Kenya. In this novel, the author researched and covered several cultural practices and beliefs among the Maa, Ameru and Luhya communities. The Luhya cultural practices covered in depth in this novel include burial, child naming, setting up a home, wife inheritance, beliefs and practices during dowry payment, children born out of wedlock and why chicken is highly valued in Luhya land. He also captures the cultural practices among the Maa and Ameru that he found interesting and informative. All these multicultural stories are well-knitted into a love story with Luhya, Ameru and Maa as starring characters. It's some sort of love triangle where a young man falls in love with two ladies whom he is portrayed to love almost equally and finds it hard to choose between the Ameru and Maa ladies. This book is a trilogy; the second part of it is A Marriage of Dolls.
