Willmott Dixon lands £23m Surrey SEND school Surrey County Council has awarded Willmott Dixon a £23m contract build a new home for Hopescourt School in Walton-on-Thames. The new Hopescourt School for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will be Surrey’s flagship net zero carbon special free school. When complete, scheduled for spring 2026, it will offer places for 200 autistic pupils aged 4-19 years as well as those with communication and interaction needs, supporting Surrey County Council’s commitment to inclusive education. Hopescourt School opened on a temporary site in West Molesey in September this year after two years of planning and development in a partnership between Surrey County Council and Bourne Education Trust with Freemantles School in Woking, and the Department for Education Regions Group. Good to see that this scheme has now secured planning permission. Anderson Acoustics were commissioned by Oundle School in 2022 to undertake an environmental noise survey and then in 2024 a noise impact assessment including advice on noise mitigation measures required to comply with the local planning requirements. We assessed the impact from existing environmental noise levels on the building itself, and set out recommended limits to externally mounted plant items so that a detailed noise assessment of external plant can be undertaken once the selections are made. The results of the noise levels measured on site, were used to calibrate an environmental 3D model of the site to predict façade noise levels at the proposed building elevations. Planning has been approved for Callander Community Campus by the National Park Planning Authority ✅ The scheme will deliver a vibrant and inclusive campus for Stirling Council that enhances the learner journey from nursery to high school. The new Callander primary school will sit adjacent to Callander Nursery, McLaren High School and McLaren Leisure Centre, creating a new community campus. Chris Malcolm, partner at Ryder, said: "This is a really important project for us within the beautiful setting of the national park, and is a good example of what can be achieved through sensitive engagement and a considered approach to working with context. Through the Mutual Investment Model (MIM), we’re working on the design, construction, and 25-year operation and maintenance of three new schools for Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council. As part of our commitment to quality and knowledge sharing across stakeholders within Wales, the Knowledge Quad was set up by Morgan Sindall Construction as a dedicated hub for quality assurance, skills development, and community engagement. This space allowed our team and supply chain partners to construct full-scale mock-ups of classrooms, offices, and facilities, ensuring every detail met the highest standards before work even began on site. Not only has the Knowledge Quad raised the bar for technical training and installation benchmarks, but it has also provided an inspiring learning space for students, giving them hands-on insights into careers in construction, engineering, and design. The Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) is making strides with its $350 million capital construction bond, approved by voters in 2022. This massive initiative is set to revamp aging buildings, including New Vista High School, and new construction like a much-needed elementary school in Erie. Personal reflection: As someone deeply invested in community growth and infrastructure, I find BVSD's holistic approach commendable. When I hear about asbestos removal and expanded Career and Technical Education (CTE) facilities, it resonates with the importance of providing safe and modern learning environments. Key highlights include: - $42 million in summer projects across 12 schools. - Enhancements in engineering and woodshop spaces at Centaurus High School. - New ADA-compliant playground surfaces at multiple elementary schools. - Modernized tech and art rooms, along with a centralized CTE information hub at Broomfield Heights Middle School.
