Sub-Saharan Africa battles a rising tide of disinformation. Governments, desperate to stem the flow, are turning to legislation. However, these laws often come at a cost. Ambiguous language and heavy-handed punishments threaten freedom of expression. The path forward requires a multi-pronged approach: clear, targeted legislation, public education, and fostering media literacy. Only then can Africa truly silence the lies without silencing its voices: https://lnkd.in/dCRQfPs4 Mischka Moosa Stuart Morrison

Freedom of Information Act (2011) - A Comprehensive Guide I'm excited to share my latest publication: "Freedom of Information Act (2011)" - a comprehensive guide to Nigeria's pivotal legislation on public information access. Key highlights of this document: • Detailed breakdown of the FOIA's core provisions and objectives • Step-by-step explanation of the application process for information requests • Analysis of institutional responses and time frames • Insights into grounds for denial and legal recourse for applicants • Discussion of exemptions and the public interest test This guide aims to demystify the FOIA, empowering citizens and promoting transparency in governance. It's a must-read for legal professionals, journalists, activists, and anyone interested in government accountability. Developed during my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) under the guidance of Mrs. Henrietta Akpofure (CDS Officer), this document reflects my commitment to public education and legal accessibility. #LegalResearch #Transparency #FOIA #NigerianLaw #PublicPolicy

There’s a key point to understand here - breaking a law, is not the same as disagreeing with a law. The UK government designates Hamas a terrorist organisation in its entirety. Even though it’s also a political and social group in Palestine. I don’t have to agree with my government’s designation of any group. As long as I’m not supporting them - because that would be breaking the law, based on UK law. For example: It’s no different to not agreeing with UK speed limit laws - as long as I’m not breaking the limit laws, I can disagree with it. I can also campaign to have any laws changed. That is within the legal rights of every citizen. - Silence is complicity #SpeakUp4Palestine and Lebanon. - Views are my own, they do not represent the views of any of my past, present or future employers or clients, and a “like” is not necessarily an endorsement.
