Meet Edgar Vargas, an intake specialist at our South County Career Center. Edgar plays a vital role in helping clients navigate their employment journeys by conducting intake interviews, assessing their skills and connecting them with the right programs and resources. If Edgar could donate to a workforce program, he’d create a career coaching mentorship to help participants build crucial soft skills and network with professionals. Outside of work, he loves hiking, spending time at the beach, caring for his plants and planning music festival outings with friends. Fundraising Consultant | Helping small non-profits grow their revenue through Fractional Fundraising and hands-on support
I realized that I share about my business, but I don’t often share about the actual work that I do with my clients (and the key word is WITH. The most successful client relationships are collaborative). This is one project I’ve been working on with Business in the Streets: capturing and sharing stories of participants and alumni (all inspiring young entrepreneurs!). So proud of what we’ve done together and excited for what’s to come! #clients #fundraising #consulting #smallbusiness #entrepreneurs #success #storytelling #nonprofits #charities
At the end of our last cohort, we met with a few alumni to learn more about their stories; who they were before coming to BITS and who they hope to be after. One of the people we were really lucky to speak with was Kedesha Kondell, founder of Kondell Business Services and Adult Development and Management Center. Her business is run as a social enterprise that sells resumes and cover letters, then uses the profits to offer free jobs skills training to new immigrants or individuals with disabilities. She started her business after observing a need in her community and realizing that she could use her background and expertise to address that need. But when she started feeling overwhelmed, she came to us for help. And we're so glad she did! We've seen her come through both YCEO and Boot Camp and we can't wait to see where she takes her business next. Listen to a small clip of our conversation below. #SmallBusinessSupport #NonProfit

Today is my 21st day of work in Forthspring. I considered how I might approach this new #leadership challenge - a permanent post rather than the short term change management assignments on which I’ve led for the last decade. I decided, I would be authentic and courageous. I would drive change - it’s my place of comfort and much needed. But, I would learn and act in equal measure. I can now afford to, and have relished the luxury, of focusing beyond strategies and results to deeply understand and value my team. I’ve tried to promote empathy and understanding as foundational to how we work together. I know I thrive in deep, genuine connections, particularly during challenging times - so I need to forge them. What I love about this role is how I get to fully embrace and integrate diverse perspectives into my decision-making processes - we are founded on faith, rooted in community development, and delivering in a secular society. I want a dialogue rich environment in my community centre, and I have it. Everyday, we have art clubs, bereavement groups, pensioners tea dances, exercise classes, after schools clubs, youth provision, detached youth work, counseling, gardening, advice clinics, prayer groups and volunteering running concurrently. I have a strong, responsive team who are community focused and person centred. I am helping them embrace an open exchange of ideas where ‘Yes’ is the instinctual response to the question ‘Can we do - ’: we’ll try, we might fail, we’ll learn and we’ll try again. It’s my hope these inclusive practices will address immediate operational needs and foster a culture where all of the team know they are instrumental in driving tangible improvements across the #charity. We will engage in continuous self-reflection, reassess our actions regularly, and stay committed through challenges. We will be valued driven - but to be that - I must lead authentically, and with courage. I will joyfully embrace generosity, empathy and inclusiveness as the trademarks of my interactions with my wonderful team and our much-valued participants. I’ve kept my messages thoughtful and genuine, transparent and direct, and have spent this entire month being people focused. I’ve made one substantial change to everyone’s job description. They now share, as a priority, a singular outcome to be addressed at each supervision; 👇 Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the souls you can, in every place you can, at all the times you can, with all the zeal you can, as long as ever you can. 👆 And so we’ll trade in making change, using good as a common currency, and the social return on our investment will be the health and happiness of our community. Join us for our #community lunch on June 21st for our Community Lunch from 12pm. Let us know you’re coming - https://lnkd.in/eaywkiDt if you want a free stall to share about your work, be in touch!
