I don't believe Suryakhumar Yadav touched the boundary wedge. But something I spoke about a good few times during my commentary days, finally happened! It is clear the boundary wedge had been pushed back during the course of the game. Go see how many times a fielder dives into the boundary wedge and it's not even replaced, or even an attempt made, to put it back in its original position. See my image below of Ben Stokes catching AB de Villers in 2016. How can that boundary be right? If he had taken the catch in the big bulge, it still would have been out. If he had taken it a few metres either way, it would not have been out! The argument that it's the same for both teams holds no value. How can it, when the boundary is not the same at the start of the game, as it is at the end? What does the law say? The boundary object, according to ICC's playing conditions states: "If a solid object used to mark the boundary is disturbed for any reason, then the boundary shall be considered to be in it's original position." So are the ICC saying they are happy with the field circumference changing? In the images of Yadav taking the catch, a white line is clearly visible, where no doubt, the boundary wedge was placed at the start of the game? Should that not be considered the real boundary, at all times? To be fair to both teams at all times, it has to be! Here's my BIG POINT and the purpose of this post: Cricket is the only sport I can think of, where a critical measurement is constantly moving. I don't see tramlines in tennis moving or changing shape? Is the boundary object being used, the best the game can come up with? The boundary wedges are an advertising gimmick! They add no value to the game itself. Minutes and thousands of dollars are spent, trying to decide if a batter is run out by millimeters but the ground circumference, is constantly changing, and it can win or lose you the game. I ask you with tears in my eyes, how can this be right?! The time has come for the game to solve this situation.With today's technology, surely it can't be difficult.
