LinkedIn just informed me its Redbourn Capital’s 5 year anniversary! Some reflections.. It’s been a real rollercoaster of a journey…navigating Brexit, the Covid pandemic, political upheaval, the Ukraine war…so feel proud to still be in business particularly as 1 in 5 start ups tend to fail in the first year and 50% go out of business by year 5. Highlights.. - Successfully acquiring Macquaries 50% stake in the South Clyde Energy Centre (SCEC) on behalf of Gren; - Winning my first expert witness case on behalf of Aberdeen Council in relation to the Ness EfW; - Raising significant development capital to facilitate the development of the Swadlincote Energy Recovery Facility (SERF) and achieving key milestones including a ‘duly made’ permit, a valid grid connection and delivery of a robust and comprehensive planning application, and; - Advising some great clients, working with some lovely people and working on some interesting EfW projects with Gren, Viridor, DEML, Foresight and others. What’s on the agenda for the next 5 years..?! - Successfully secure planning consent for SERF and delivering a market leading resource recovery park in Swadlincote; - Bring in SCEC on time and to budget in my role as Chair of the Steering Group working with the JV partner, EPCM delivery team and the Gren team; - Support the Gren team in the delivery of the largest district heating network (and private wire offtake) in Glasgow, and; Who knows what life rich tapestry has in store…but all I know is that there is lots of new and exciting initiatives and projects reflecting the changing regulatory landscape..EPCM management, CCS, bottom ash processing, waste-to-x, district heating, private wire..for me to get my teeth into.. #5yearanniversary #EfW #Development

Peel Ports Group get £150m go ahead... The redevelopment of Hunterston port in North Ayrshire will transform the former coal terminal into a leading hub for sustainable energy and innovation. Scheduled to begin in 2025, the project spans 350 acres and includes the construction of the world’s largest Liquid Air Energy Storage facility, subsea cable manufacturing, and gravity base structures for offshore wind energy. With up to 90% of the site optioned by firms in the sustainable energy sector, the development is expected to attract £3.5bn in inward investment and create over 5,000 jobs. Peel Ports Clydeport, the site owner, aims to position Hunterston as a cornerstone of the UK’s net-zero strategy, leveraging its mile-long jetty and deep-water channel to accommodate large vessels. This initiative reflects the critical role of ports in enabling the UK’s energy transition. The redevelopment not only repurposes a historically industrial site but also drives economic growth and advances renewable energy solutions, setting a precedent for sustainable port innovation. #ports #infrastructure #energytransition #netzero

Glad to hear that Port Hawkesbury Paper LP are looking to diversify their energy mix! The 400 million that will be invested in the Goose Lake Wind Farm will create over 150 jobs during construction, as well as a handful for the 20 years of subsequent operation. There will also be work for a number of local contractors as well, during both construction and operation. Good news all around!

💙It was a full house at our second clean energy and maritime business forum in Harwich last week... We have worked with partners to develop the new Harwich Clean Energy and Maritime Innovation Cluster bringing together growing SMEs and large companies in the renewable energy, green fuels, ports, technology and maritime sectors while developing links with education and research organisations. The Cluster is also aligned with the model of the Government’s new Industrial Strategy which provides a focus on the alignment of Places and Sectors. The Harwich Clean Energy and Maritime Innovation Cluster is being delivered by a partnership including Freeport East, the University of Essex and Tendring District Council to support developing businesses in the region. Nuveen Green Capital provided $14 million in C-PACER (Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy and Resiliency) financing for a new Courtyard by Marriott Midtown in #Anchorage, in partnership with Northrim Bank, Member FDIC and the City of Anchorage and Municipality, Alaska! By deploying C-PACER financing for the energy efficiency measures, the hotel will be able to operate with a reduced carbon footprint and lower operating costs.
