The Houthis declare! Warning to ships of all nationalities! The Houthis will prohibit any ship bound for Israel from sailing in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, and this ban will apply to ships of any nationality that are at risk of attack, damage to the ship, and the owner of the ship may claim general average. Routes involved: European route, North African route, Mediterranean West Coast, Mediterranean East Coast, Red Sea route, Black Sea route, Adriatic route As a result of the Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, major shipping companies will continue to sail around the Cape of Good Hope 1. The sailing time to the Mediterranean and Black Sea will be extended by 15-20 days. 2. Extend the time to Europe by 15 days. 3. Combined with the congestion of the Panama Canal and the peak season of the Chinese Lunar Year, freight rates will push up to a high level in a short time and remain high for a long time. The original Red Sea route through the Suez Canal to Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and North Africa has begun to circumnavigate the Cape of Good Hope in Africa. In the coming period of time, the cargo voyage of Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea and the Middle East will increase significantly, the storage space will be reduced, and the sea freight expected to increase #Shipping #Exports #Imports #Gulf #Africa #India

Martin Langaas and Ulv Elbirk report another win for Norway’s winter market at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Slot Conference in Dubai, even though their primary mission was to negotiate next summer’s capacity at Avinor’s airports✈️ The Avinor duo points to increased interest for Norway, due to people seeking tempered destinations with less extreme heat being a trend. True winter experiences north of the polar circle also see a rise in demand, injecting new urgency into the ongoing strategic development of regional destinations in Norway☃️ Martin and Ulv conclude that interest for Norway’s truly unique winter market keeps growing, with plenty of reasons for optimism for the future.

Many cruise ships spend the southern hemisphere summer home-porting in Dubai, Africa and Australasia, before returning to the Mediterranean in time for Europe’s summer cruise season. The quickest route ‘home’ to the Mediterranean is via the Red Sea and Suez Canal, but to reach the Canal ships must sail through the Bab Al Mandeb Strait off the coast of Yemen. With the ongoing conflict in the region – including Houthi rebels firing cruise missiles at vessels – ever-cautious cruise companies are choosing to reroute their ships the (much) longer way around the southern tip of Africa.
Suez woes mean more ships for Cape Town

Hapag-Lloyd/Wan Hai/ONE/Yangming terminate the Asia-Red Sea AR1 service due to the crisis. This is on paper a significant reduction in dedicated capacity between Asia and Red Sea. The vessels that were operating this weekly service were in the range of 5600-6700 TEU. However it should be noted that in reality this service has been somewhat dysfunctional since the outbreak of the crisis with one of the vessels - "Wan Hai 613" essentially waiting a full month south of Salalah before it proceeded through to the Red Sea just a week ago. It does serve as an illustration of the market opportunity for a range of the mainly Asian carriers who continue to operate Asia-Red Sea services. Although we should not forget that the CMA-CGM vessels using the transit also takes cargo on this trade, not just for themselves and their alliance partners COSCO, OOCL and Evergreen, but also for Hapag-Lloyd, ONE and Shipping Corporation of India who share space on the French carrier's India-Europe services which does have vessel calls in the Red Sea. Wan Hai is here a good example of how difficult it is to get an overview of who does what. They were partners in the now closed down AR1. On their website they have a listing of service called "India-Middle East service". The schedule for the service very clearly indicate named vessels and ports and the timing shows these are transiting the risk area going into the Red Sea. Yet if you click to get their map of this service there is no depiction of this going into the Red Sea. Even more interesting they are listing the vessel "X-Press Mekong" to have left Jebel Ali and now going to Jeddah. This matches the physical location shown for the vessel on vesselfinder. But if you search for the vessel "X-Press Mekong" on X-Press feeder's own site you do get a hit, but they indicate it as being allocated to their Mombasa-Far East service - whilst their more detailed sailing schedule does not show the vessel. https://lnkd.in/dthVZSvq
