https://lnkd.in/eheBcaXB Today marks Global Plastic Overshoot Day, a sobering reminder that humanity has already consumed more plastic than our planet can handle this year. At SEADS, we are committed to being part of the solution! We are proud to design innovative systems that collect plastic waste from rivers before it reaches our oceans, transforming this crisis into opportunity. Every piece of plastic we recover will be recycled into new materials, fostering local jobs, and helping to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. Together, we are not only reducing plastic pollution but also creating sustainable futures. Join us in the fight against plastic pollution! 💪🌱 Every step counts. Let’s make our world cleaner, safer, and more equitable – starting with our rivers. #GlobalPlasticOvershootDay #PlasticPollution #Sustainability #CleanRivers #RecyclePlastic #CircularEconomy #CommunityEmpowerment #ActNow #PlasticFreeOceans

Did you know we're on track to generate over 220 million tonnes of plastic waste this year alone? Enter #PlasticOvershootDay – the point in the year when our plastic waste exceeds the world's waste management capacity. In 2024, it falls on September 5th. 🔎What does this mean? For the remaining 117 days of 2024, plastic waste will be poorly managed globally, ending up in landfills or our oceans. 🙌How can we address this crisis? Sarah Perreard, Co-CEO at EA - Earth Action & Plastic Footprint Network, emphasizes: "Corporate action, collaboration, and regulation through an effective UN Treaty will deliver change." Key #strategies include: 1. Setting ambitious recycling targets 2. Improving plastic recycling efficiency 3. Reducing unnecessary plastic production By embracing circular economy principles, we can extend the life of materials and minimize waste. Discover how you can contribute to solving the plastic crisis: https://lnkd.in/eheBcaXB #PlasticOvershootDay #plasticwaste #EarthAction #CircularEconomy #plasticrecycling #sustainblebusiness

The 5th of September marked global Plastic Overshoot Day – the point in the year where the amount of plastic waste generated exceeds our ability to manage it.This year, EA - Earth Action’s Plastic Overshoot Day report found that 220 million tonnes of plastic waste is set to be generated in 2024.It showed that on average, 28kg of plastic waste per person will be generated globally, with a steady rise in total plastic waste of 7.11% since 2021.Our findings demonstrate the urgent need for action to protect our environment and health from the threat of plastic pollution. While many corporations and SMEs are already taking steps to tackle this crisis, it is this corporate action along with government collaboration and legislation that will deliver impactful change. With two months to go until the final round of UN negotiations for an international treaty on plastic pollution, the report serves as an urgent reminder for international businesses, governments and SMEs that we can no longer function “business as usual”.We have great hope that 2024 is the year where we see ambition turned into action.Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/empcABPY #PlasticPollution #GlobalPlasticsTreaty

Plastic Overshoot Day marks the point when the amount of plastic waste generated exceeds the world’s capacity to manage it, resulting in environmental pollution. In 2024, the global Plastic Overshoot Day is projected to occur on September 5th. Each country has its own Plastic Overshoot Day, which is determined by the amount of plastic waste generated and the country’s capacity to manage it. https://lnkd.in/eRjanhXt

Plastic Sucks: Your Plastic Waste and Why It Matters → by Lorne Michael Cousins → How to reduce your plastic waste and why it matters for the environment and society. Plastic is everywhere. It's in our homes, our offices, our cars, our clothes, and even our food. Now, apparently, it's in our bodies! There's a reason for this. It's convenient, cheap, and durable. But it also has a dark side. Plastic is one of the biggest sources of pollution in the world, harming wildlife, ecosystems, and human health. Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in landfills and oceans, where they take centuries to decompose and release toxic chemicals. Plastic waste also contributes to climate change by emitting green... → Full Article: https://lnkd.in/gxdYSudy #Environment #Essentials #CircularEconomy #Economy #Ecosystems #Environment #Environmental #PlasticPollution #PlasticProducts #PlasticWaste #PlasticWasteManagement #Pollution #Recycling #Society #Sustainability #WasteManagement #SustainabilityDirectory

“We die of plastic pollution, not of CO2. We’re being killed by plastic right now, not perphaps in 2050.” These words often make me sound like a radical or a provocateur, but it’s time to face the hard truth and stop ignoring plastic pollution or thinking that’s a problem just for turtles. This recent study by Italian researchers (link in comments) throws a stark light on this crisis. “Patients found with microplastics in their bodily tissues were 4.5 times more likely to suffer a stroke, have a heart attack, or die within 34 months than those without.” This isn’t science fiction; it’s our reality. At Papkot™ we’re here to prove that a sustainable future isn’t just possible—it’s imperative. Join us. Let’s turn the tide on plastic pollution together. #ActNow #SustainabilityWarriors #PapkotPioneers #NoTimeToWaste

This Plastic Free July let’s make a difference for our oceans and #coastalwetlands. Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people worldwide fight plastic pollution through small but impactful actions. Did you know that an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic (including #microplastics) accumulates in the global ocean each year? Despite this, it is not yet known how this plastic could affect #bluecarbon ecosystems, and the many ecosystem services they provide. At BlueCarbonLab, our researchers are quantifying the fate and impacts of #plastics in Australia’s coastal wetlands to inform industry and policy on best-practice management. This #PlasticFreeJuly, explore the resources in the link below for ideas on how you can get involved. From choosing reusables and opting for plastic alternatives, to educational workshops and beach cleans, there are many actions we can take as individuals to combat #plasticpollution and create positive change. 🔗 plasticfreejuly.org

The contamination of the environment and human health caused by plastic waste is a significant concern due to its role as a source of hazardous waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Microplastics, which contaminate ecosystems, are a byproduct of the majority of plastic that is not recyclable. Researchers are investigating the impact of plastic pollution on crops, land ecosystems, fertility, and human health. To address this issue, it is essential to focus on the complete plastic lifecycle, from production to disposal, to reduce plastic pollution and its detrimental effects on the environment and human health. https://lnkd.in/eSKhUb7R #plasticpollution #environmentalhealth #sustainability #recycling #microplastics #hazardouswaste #greenhousegasemissions #ecosystems #humanhealth #research #lifecycle #reduceplasticwaste #sustainableliving #climatechange #zerowaste #ecofriendly Suzanna ElMassah Zayed University
