Hopefully this in principle agreement to end the port strikes at DP World controlled ports in #Australia will bring an end to the on going industrial actions. This is just the beginning. The ramification of this almost 3 month long strike has created a huge backlog of containers (export, import & empties) waiting to be cleared. The port & land-side operations could take another few months to achieve normalcy. Now to turn back again to the issues created by #panamacanal drought & #redsea crisis . Never a dull day in the life of #oceanfreight supply chain practitioners. “Never let a good crisis go to waste” (Winston Churchill quote in 1940 during the early ugly beginning of WWII). #Australia #dpw #portstrikes #supplychaindisruption #oceanfreight

🚨Learning from loss!🚨 The investigation for the loss of the F-35B during a training flight on the Royal Navy carrier has been released. A reallly interesting read. As always, lessons learned from the aviation industry can help us in understanding and refining elements of human failure and the factors which ultimately set us up for success or failure. These are relevent in every facet of health of safety, any industry and sector. New equipment, New processes, Lack of checklists, Lack of prioritisation of certain activities, Not learning from two similar previous incidents in the US, long work schedule (6 month deployment) All the above and more contributed to the failure. Thankfully noone was seriously hurt. (Not sure what happened to the deck crew afterwards lol - I am sure the pilot was hunting them down like Liam Neeson in Paris….) Would be interested to hear from any RN fleet air arm, what changes have been made to improve and refine. (Addition of checklists, shadow boards etc….?) Reactive learning is vitally important in all walks of life, especially when it involves the potential loss of life and the loss of £85/90 million of equipment. #humanfactors #humanfailure #checklists #safety #military #healthandsafety #hse #ehs #hsse #hseq #lessonslearned

The TWU stands in solidarity and support with Maritime Union of Australia Members from DP World on strike today. This company is taking a leaf right out of the Qantas playbook of corporate greed: gaming the system to obliterate workers’ pay and conditions and holding the threat of outsourcing over their heads, all while dodging taxes and refusing to bargain in good faith While DP World makes huge profits that it shifts out of the Australian economy, the port workers who have delivered these profits are bearing the brunt of the cost of living crisis But DP World’s greed also has huge flow-on effects on the rest of the transport supply chain Enough is enough: DP World must come back to the table and ensure fair pay that keeps up with the rest of the industry, work-life balance, and safety. #twuvictas #mua

Interesting read.
Na h-Eileanan an Iar MP, Angus MacNeil has expressed his support for British Airline Pilots' Association (BALPA) members in Bristow and repeated our calls for the company to put forward a reasonable offer. “Everyone knows the importance of the search and rescue helicopter in our islands, and we value the work of the staff who go out in all weathers to all sorts of tasks. “I was quite appalled to understand from BALPA that over the last few years, the real terms pay of those brave individuals who take people on emergency medical evacuations or go out to ships in storms, have seen a 25% decrease in their pay. -Angus MacNeil MP https://lnkd.in/eXBKq9aA

Anyone travelling to and from Germany this Thursday, please be aware... Verdi, the union responsible for airport security workers at major airports across Germany, has called for employees to strike on Thursday.
