We are relieved to report that our teams based in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Trinidad, and Mexico are all safe and well following the impact and devastating damage caused by Hurricane Beryl as it moves through the Caribbean region. Beryl is the earliest storm on record to hit the Caribbean with such strength. The abnormally early arrival of this hurricane, significantly ahead of the typical late August to September hurricane season, worryingly demonstrates how the effects of climate change and rising ocean temperatures are already increasing the risk faced from severe storm events by residents. It is now more important than ever to act on climate change to avoid worsening natural disasters like this, which will continue to arrive out of season and with increasing intensity. https://lnkd.in/e3fUSgvH

Hurricane Beryl - Yesterday, my heart was aching as the storm Hurricane Beryl brought heavy winds and rain down on Jamaica. The storm’s powerful winds and relentless rain are threatening the beautiful southeast Windward Caribbean islands, bringing fear and uncertainty to so many. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in its path, especially those who have lost their homes on the islands St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Greneda. We continue to pray for the islands as the storm falls upon them and drives toward landfall in Mexico and the U.S. This devastating event also reminds us of the urgent need to address #climatechange, as this July storm is the earliest hurricane recorded in the Caribbean. The increasing frequency and intensity of such storms highlight the importance of raising awareness and taking action to protect our planet. The Caribbean islands, which bear the brunt of the impacts of climate change, need our support and commitment to a sustainable future. Stay strong and support each other during this challenging time.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, Grenada Red Cross Society, Barbados Red Cross Society and Jamaica Red Cross are responding to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Beryl. Climate change has likely played a significant role in the rapid intensification of storms like Beryl. The hotter-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the southern Atlantic and Caribbean are acting as a catalyst for storms, causing them to strengthen quickly into major hurricanes. The severity of the damages in the aftermath of the hurricane is tangible and, unfortunately, heartbreaking as hurricane season in the Caribbean is just beginning. Our Red Cross network is critical for these types of disasters. Our volunteers and staff are there before, during, and after these events. At this point, the needs are immense — food, shelter, water, clothing. At the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, we have launched an emergency appeal of CHF 4 million to provide humanitarian assistance to 25,000 people affected in Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and Jamaica for the next 12 months.

This is the impact of human-created climate breakdown happening on the planet now. Hurricane Beryl is the most intense storm ever experienced in the Caribbean at this time of the year. We need to phase out fossil fuels now, not by 2035 or see other later date, to avoid more of this devastating destruction. https://lnkd.in/eaPcU-BF

Interesting what this could foreshadow for the rest of Hurricane Season.
Hurricane Beryl Sets Records! When Beryl became a hurricane on June 29th, it shattered a 91-year-old record, becoming the farthest east June hurricane in the tropical Atlantic. By June 30th, Beryl had intensified into a Category 4 hurricane, marking the first ever in June to reach such strength. This morning, Hurricane Beryl remains a powerful Category 4, impacting the Windward Islands and expected to traverse the Caribbean. While the U.S. impact is still unknown, we're monitoring closely and ready to respond if needed. Stay safe and stay tuned for updates! ServiceMaster Restore is nearby and ready to assist now. Hurricane Beryl With wind gusts of up to 165 miles per hour, hurricane Beryl was a deadly and destructive Category 5 Atlantic hurricane that impacted several countries in the Caribbean region (FYI: Barbados, Windward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Yucatan Peninsula and Central United States). I have been closely following the developments of Hurricane Milton in the Gulf of Mexico, and it’s truly unprecedented! Residents have been warned of life-threatening storm stages that could reach 15 feet, which is about 3 times the average human height. This is the first time the region, which houses more than 3 million people is seeing a direct hit from a major hurricane in over a century. This morning, the hurricane reached a maximum sustained speed of 250km/h slightly shy of a stage 5 hurricane. Remember hurricane Catrina, of similar magnitude, resulted in more than 1700 fatalities in the USA in 2005 Residents around Tampa Bay where the hurricane is expected to make landfall are fleeing in hundreds of thousands since mandatory evacuations have been called for. Hurricane Milton serves as another reminder that climate change is a reality we cannot ignore, and Africa is no exception. At this point, Africa needs to answer the following questions: - How prepared are we to establish effective early warning systems? -How resilient is our infrastructure in the face of these devastating events? -How engaged and empowered are our communities to respond to climate-related emergencies? #HurricaneMilton #DisasterManagement #ClimateChange #WeatherAlert CNN BBC News

Hurricane #Helene is forecasted to be the largest, strongest Hurricane this season. #ICEYE is actively monitoring and collecting data on this storm to provide our customers near real-time analysis of the impacts of this storm. US hurricane alert! #Helene just reached hurricane status and is expected to become a major hurricane in the next 24-36 hours, likely reaching category 3 strength before landfall. Helene is forecasted to make landfall late Thursday into early Friday, putting the Florida Panhandle and much of the western Florida coast at risk. Given the storm's faster forward speed, stronger winds may push farther inland with this event than others this year, though the damage will likely be more scattered and less severe due to the storm's weakening. ICEYE closely monitors the area with the world's largest, cloud-penetrating #SAR satellite fleet to provide rapid, observation-driven insights for emergency management organizations, public authorities, and insurance companies in the region.
