When it comes to purposeful use of psychedelics, this ought to also be an important wake-up for the clinical mindset: putting spiritual practice first brings along the mental, emotional, and physical benefits of psychedelics, too.
I'm proud to publicly announce the victory of my client, The Church of the Eagle and the Condor, who is the 3rd religious organization recognized to use ayahuasca in the United States, the first purely indigenous, non-Christian, organization to gain such recognition. The first organization to gain this recognition in a government settlement, not as the result of a trial. It was an honor to be co-council on this case and a career highlight for me. https://lnkd.in/g7j-4Qgg

WHY LONG HAIR AND COMBAT UNITS DON'T MIX: A Navajo Veteran’s Thoughts As a Navajo man with long hair and a veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the 75th Ranger Regiment, I'm glad to see Navajo traditions being honored in the military. However, there needs to be a balance between cultural practices and operational readiness. Here are three reasons why I think long hair should not be allowed for combat units: COMBAT UNITS MUST TRAIN AS THEY FIGHT: Infantry and Airborne units need to maintain high readiness. Short hair isn't just tradition; it's practical. It ensures uniformity, eliminates distractions, and helps soldiers focus on their mission. Airborne units, in particular, need short hair as their mission often involves jumping into or behind enemy lines. SAFETY IN COMBAT: In combat, short hair is safer and more practical. Long hair can get caught in equipment or be grabbed by the enemy. Short hair also reduces hygiene issues and the risk of lice and other parasites, which can affect health and performance. MINIMIZING IDENTIFIABLE FEATURES: Just as saluting officers in combat zones is avoided because it identifies them as targets, long hair can make individuals easier to target. Uniformity in appearance, including hair length, helps maintain anonymity and reduces the risk of being singled out. While I'm proud of the military for showing respect for Native American traditions, we must prioritize the effectiveness and safety of our combat units. As someone with long hair working for a ballistic helmet company, I can attest that wearing a helmet with long hair is infuriating. #militarynews #longhair #navajo #rltw #veteran Military Times

Integrated Behavioral Health. I Join People in Creating an Optimal Environment for Their Healing and Wellness.
On this Juneteenth, I am remembering that freedom has never been given. The oppressors did not suddenly come to a moral realization or recognition of our humanity. Neither did the emancipation proclamation develop out of altruism. We have been freeing ourselves for centuries through a variety of means including uprisings, political influence, building community, advocacy, education, creativity, ingenuity, ownership, and individual/collective healing- the aptitude for all of which, we have always had. It's important to note that "slave" (a term succeeded by other terms in the white body lexicon to dehumanize) was the identity African bodies were made to believe and accept about themselves. The role and presence of African bodies in the global and historical context is so much greater and more important than the 250-400 years of white body American history. Though held captive for a time, it is a tale to think our identity was ever anything other than fully human and inherently free. It's important because when we know who we are and supposed to be, anything else that is imposed on us becomes foreign and we learn to resist with every ounce of our being. I celebrate Juneteenth today in honor of our perpetual resistance and the ancestors who show us the way. It is a day truly of our own meaning making.

Blessed Journey: Walking Through The Beatitudes Day 7: Blessed Are the Peacemakers How can being a peacemaker transform your life and the lives of those around you? Matthew 5:9 - "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Being a peacemaker means actively seeking to reconcile, heal, and create harmony. It's more than just avoiding conflict; it’s about building bridges and fostering unity. Jesus calls peacemakers blessed, promising that they will be recognized as children of God. This Beatitude encourages us to reflect God’s heart for peace in our interactions with others. Consider the story of Desmond Tutu, the South African Anglican bishop and social rights activist who played a key role in ending apartheid. Tutu’s relentless pursuit of peace and reconciliation was grounded in his deep faith. He chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which aimed to heal the nation by uncovering the truth about human rights violations and fostering forgiveness. Tutu’s work exemplified the power of peacemaking, transforming a divided nation and demonstrating the profound impact of reconciliation. Desmond Tutu’s life shows us that peacemaking requires courage, compassion, and a commitment to justice. His dedication to creating a more just and harmonious society reflects God’s desire for peace in our world. Tutu’s efforts remind us that peacemaking is not passive but an active pursuit of God’s kingdom on earth. In our own lives, we can be peacemakers by resolving conflicts, showing kindness, and advocating for justice. It starts with small acts—listening with empathy, forgiving others, and promoting understanding. When we strive for peace, we reflect God’s love and bring His light into the world. Let us commit to being peacemakers, knowing that in doing so, we mirror the heart of God and fulfill our calling as His children. As we pursue peace, we contribute to a more loving and just world, one step at a time. #UnhinderedFaith #BlessedJourney #Beatitudes #Peacemakers #ChildrenOfGod #Faith #Reconciliation #MotivationalMonday #DesmondTutu #Inspiration #SpiritualGrowth #ChristianLiving #PursuitOfPeace #FaithJourney #GodsPromises
