Don't shoot the dog. Especially not the champion one. She's heading to Geelong next week. She'll be joining 300 other sheepdogs taking on more than 1000 sheep in Australia's biggest working sheepdog event at Geelong showgrounds. Event link in comments. There's a lot to learn from working with a working dog, that is transferrable to working with working humans. Firstly don't shoot 'em. The champion sheepdog handlers always talk about 'EDUCATING THE DOG', not training them. This means the dog has its natural instinct to do its best work, and as a handler, you educate the dog to do that work for you, in the way you want it done. Isn't that how we need to work with/'educate' the humans we lead??? What are your thoughts on the dogs and human comparison? Anyway, next week Sep 7-15, you'll see the best working sheepdogs and their handlers competing to be Australia's Supreme Champion. You'll also get to see Australia handlers compete against New Zealand handlers for the Wayleggo Cup. #musterdogs #dogs #leadingpeople #event #geelong

Love this Sean! We think alike. I agree, encouragement, learning opportunities, not being punished when we make mistakes is the name of the game I created a workshop exercise many years ago when I worked at RSPCA - one group of managers answered the question 'How do we get the dogs to do what we want them to do?' the other group got the same question about people. Sadly, the answers were very different. They all then received a copy of the book Whale Done and a 'people treat bag' 😀
