As of December 14, 2017, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has officially reversed net neutrality. In a 3-2 vote, the commission approved a proposal to eliminate the FCC's net neutrality rules from 2015. This means Internet service providers (ISPs) such as Spectrum, Time Warner, and Comcast can manage their networks more aggressively and create preferred fast lanes for content.

Cable advises FCC on shaping net neutrality's return. Net neutrality's anti-throttling rules should include exceptions for ""reasonable network management" and data caps and zero rating should remain options, cable groups told the FCC. ""Network slicing should not be used to provision a BIAS [broadband Internet access service] offering or to transmit services, applications, or content consumers access utilizing a BIAS service in a manner that circumvents the proposed Open Internet rules," added the NCTA -- The Internet & Television Association, in a document it submitted with eight state-based organizations. Weekend Extra: Net Neutrality Returns under Democratic FCC—The FCC has voted to restore net neutrality rules reclassifying broadband service under Title II of the Telecommunications Act. This is the second time the net neutrality regulations have gone into effect after being passed the first time at the end of the Obama administration, before being rolled back under Trump. The rules ban paid prioritization and other efforts to block or throttle content for commercial purposes. With another election on the horizon, a second Trump term would likely see these regulations undone once again. #nextgenstreaming #freecast #streamingwars #nomoreappdiving #Streaming #netneutrality https://lnkd.in/e-YH8Fud

In a significant move, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken a decisive step towards preserving net neutrality, a principle that ensures equal access to the internet for all users. With a 3-2 vote in favor, the FCC reinstated rules that prohibit broadband providers from throttling or blocking internet traffic and prioritize access based on financial incentives. This action marks a return to the regulations put in place during the Obama administration in 2015, which were subsequently rolled back in 2017. Let's delve into the implications of this decision and what it means for the future of the internet landscape.

America is preparing for the return of something unexpected from the annals of history. We're talking, of course, about the comeback of net neutrality. Next month, Obama-era regulations will enter into force and bring major changes to the regulatory landscape. "Restoring the 2015 net neutrality rules will drive innovation, economic growth and the free exchange of ideas by ensuring the Internet remains open, secure and accessible to all," the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Information Administration said earlier this year. Controversies over nontechnical parts of #FCC budget may limit overall FCC appropriation and thus hurt #basically noncontroversial #spectrum policy resources. Time for a clear and separate budget "line item" for spectrum policy resources at FCC so they are not damaged by highly partisan issues like net neutrality and broadcast ownership limits?
