When going through the real estate process, it is important to figure out who to be on your "team." These are three important people you should reach out to when going through a real estate transaction. Estate Agent: An agent with experience and expertise in the city and neighborhood where you are shopping is instrumental in educating you about value, particular buildings, schools and the intangibles that make a neighborhood your home. Loan Officer: If you are financing your purchase, you need a local loan officer with experience in the market where you are buying. The New York City co-op and condo market is unique and requires a loan officer who understands the nuances of these properties. Attorney: Your attorney should be someone who handles residential real estate transactions daily. The key to your success in purchasing in the NYC market is expertise and efficiency. While your family’s estate or corporate attorney might be trustworthy, or your college roommate who practices personal injury law might offer to help you for free, he/she will not be as efficient in conducting due diligence and getting you into a binding contract as a practicing real estate attorney. There is no need to reinvent the wheel!
