GREAT NEWS: the Supreme Court just rejected an attempt to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule to limit carbon pollution from fossil-fueled power plants from going into effect. This decision is significant for Southern communities who live near some of the country’s highest carbon polluting power plants. While we applaud this victory, the power plant pollution limits are being challenged in a lower court at a time when we are experiencing devastating impacts from climate change in our region. Yet, the 2023 stats on marine pollution paint a grim picture. Each year, 12.7 million tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans, wreaking havoc on fragile marine ecosystems. 🐠💔 This is why the EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy (IMP) is so crucial—it supports both environmental protection and a stronger blue economy.
