Why did I catch COVID, but my housemates did not? Researchers at UW Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital are looking for more than 200 Seattle-area households interested in joining a study to learn how COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections spread from person to person within a household, and how that spread can be prevented. My letter in today's Boston Globe regarding H5N1: In tackling bird flu, US needs to halt spread of misinformation Re “Resurgence of bird flu sounding alarms” (Page A1, April 3): We are ill-prepared to handle H5N1. Trust in science and scientific literacy is paramount in addressing this issue, especially in light of vaccine hesitancy and misinformation regarding COVID-19 and mpox. President Biden must demonstrate leadership in addressing H5N1. There is a need for a public education campaign to raise awareness about bird flu and the measures individuals can take to protect themselves. Failure to act swiftly could have catastrophic consequences. A focus on clear communication, educating the general public, and combating misinformation must be our priority. Dr. Philip A.
