Seattle Foundation's deep commitment to climate justice over the last decade includes using our voice to call attention to important transit and climate-related ballot issues. We are once again calling attention to a critical ballot initiative – I-2117 – that could potentially have devastating impacts on our region's ability to plan for and adapt to our changing climate by repealing the Climate Commitment Act. Protect our climate and community. Join us and Vote NO on I-2117 this November to ensure a sustainable future for Washington. #NoOnI2117 #ClimateJustice 🌎🌱 Read more >> https://lnkd.in/gpzSx9H3

Vermont is the first state to pass The Climate Superfund Act, a #bill that requires oil and gas companies to pay for damages from extreme storms fueled by carbon emissions. Behind the bill is Sen. Anne Watson, a lifelong Vermont resident who was elected to state senate in 2022. She's also witnessed first-hand how extreme flooding has devastated Vermont. I did a Q&A with Watson to learn the importance of this bill, its impact, and how it can influence other states to get involved with protecting the environment. White House executive actions garner climate headlines, but #ClimateAction of lasting impact has to come from bipartisan efforts at a more local level. After all, America has been into, out of, and back into the #ParisAgreement over the past decade. And who knows what comes next. By far, the most encouraging sign I've seen lately are the plans nearly nearly every state, tribal region, and major metro area developed and submitted to the EPA by March 1, under the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program funded through the federal #InflationReductionAct. Red states, blue states, and purple states are all stepping up. And once the review process is complete, we should see exciting programs rolling out locally by late summer. The plans for Georgia Environmental Protection Division and the Atlanta Regional Commission were greatly informed by the work of Drawdown Georgia and the Georgia Climate Project, which should lead to even greater precision and cost-effectiveness in the programs and measure to be implemented. https://lnkd.in/eRwBYGtf

In 2021, working with many partners and legislative champions, we supported passage of the Climate Commitment Act, one of the country's most rigorous climate policies. This is a great interview with TNC colleagues Sarah Brady and David Mendoza discussing the Act, where we stand now, and what it takes to sustain progress on climate. #thenatureconservancy

Installing #greeninfrastructure and #greenspaces is important to mitigate #climatechange in #urbanspaces everywhere. It is critically important for #environmentaljustice and #overburdenedcommunities. There are many #OBCs in #NewJersey needing #greeninfrastructure as well. Let’s work together to make the places people live and work to be safe and healthy environments.

New CAP blog by Desislava Stefanova!! Municipal Governance and Accountability to Support Climate Implementation Canadian municipalities have shown remarkable dedication over the past five years to scale up their climate action implementation efforts. Many have declared a climate emergency and crafted ambitious climate plans. However, municipal staff encounter many challenges in implementing these plans. At Clean Air Partnership, we recognize these challenges and have been committed to paving a path for effective climate action implementation. Our latest blog by CAP's Outreach Manager, Desi Stefanova, summarizes key findings from our recent Climate Governance, Accountability and Implementation webinar series. To equitably address #ClimateChange, the Climate Protection Program must listen to environmental justice communities and invest in us. EJ communities face higher costs for utilities, worse air quality, and worse health outcomes. They're made up of people of color and low-income families who experience climate change first and worst. Right now, part of the Climate Protection Program that empowers and invests in EJ communities is under attack. Check out the new Climate Protection Program website to learn more and sign the petition: https://lnkd.in/gkrrdTTv The Climate Protection Program is a priority of Unite Oregon, Verde, Beyond Toxics, PCUN, and NEIGHBORS FOR CLEAN AIR.
