THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TALENT AND A SKILL
Right from her childhood age, Zarah has always plaited hair for her dolls.
For every doll that her mother bought for her, she would make hair for them and do it in different styles.
Zarah did not learn this from anybody, and she used to amaze everyone around with this ability.
Zarah grew up plaiting hair for her family and friends and later became an established hair stylist.
___________
After Femi finished secondary school, his parents didn't have the capability to send him to a higher institution.
So, Femi's parents discuss with him if he would learn a trade or profession, which he can use to sponsor himself if he wishes to further his education.
After lots of thought, Femi told his parents that he would love to learn barbering.
His parents agreed with him and took him to a master in the craft where he learned and mastered barbering.
Femi learned and mastered barbering and later became an established hair stylist.
___________
The two stories above are an illustration of two individuals who became hair stylists in different ways.
For Zarah, it is a natural ability for her to plait and make hair.
However, if Femi had not gone to a master barber who trained him how to cut hair, he may never have known how to cut hair in his life.
So, in short, Zarah has talent while Femi acquired the skill.
However, you should understand that what is important is not having the natural ability or acquiring the skill.
What is important is the "developing" the talent or skill.
The truth is, if Zarah had not developed her talent, she would never have attained the position of an established stylist.
And same goes for Femi.
Because if he had only learned barbering and not developed it by practice, he also would not have become a master and established hair stylist.
So, this is exactly the difference between a talent and a skill.
