OPERA: STAY BOLD / EXPERIMENT! Too many articles portray opera in the light of solemn tradition, inadvertently brushing aside the fact that opera, from the silly to the sublime, has always been a place of experimentation. Opera doesn’t belong to a single narrative or style. It thrives on variety, something that supports artists’ freedom to experiment and tailor different productions to diverse audiences. There’s beauty in a more inclusive understanding of opera—one that sees value in attempts to preserve traditions or push boundaries (please!). This doesn’t compromise opera’s integrity; it enhances it, making the art form more alive and resonant with a wider audience. I’m excited by those visionary directors - like Ella Marchment - who understand opera’s capacity to adapt and innovate, revealing that its future lies in its ability to offer something for everyone, through a kaleidoscope of different voices and visions. #Opera #ArtisticFreedom #EmbracingDiversity #classicalmusic no

Friday Arts. At Springboard Opera, our things are Re-inventing the Opera Idea and Supporting Emerging Artists. Cool… On the face of it, that would seem to be about (say) presenting opera in new and innovative ways in unexpected and surprising places to people who would not usually participate in Opera. Got all of that? It IS a bit of a headful for a Friday! And what of those of us who are not blessed with singing voices? Are we doomed to sit on the sidelines as Friends and Ticket Buyers? Well … as it turns out, you can if that is your thing… but otherwise, a resounding NO! To achieve our stated outcomes, a new kind of arts organisation is needed. One that is willing to challenge the paradigm and take advantage of the opportunities thrown up by the 21st century. Answering questions like: - why does Opera have to be done the way that it is? - What could a different future look like? And ... - Can we create a sustainable model for opera (and the arts generally) that is not so heavily reliant on Government? Paradigm-busting thoughts!!! Springboard Opera, the 21st century opera company, is being built on new ways of financing itself, new ways of ensuring all stakeholders get properly rewarded for what they do, new ways to use technology in everything, new strategies to achieve outcomes… A New Way of thinking about itself. Because if it does not do that it is a 20th century opera company pretending to be a 21st Century Opera Company. No matter how wonderful a product or service may appear, nothing will please “everyone.” Therefore, each product or service must have a defined market if you are serious about your business succeeding. Narrow your demographic group by positioning your product appropriately. Opera Anywhere Announces Outrageous Quarry Amphitheatre Project In a ground breaking move that has left both opera aficionados and architectural enthusiasts in awe, Opera Anywhere has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art amphitheatre in an unlikely location: an old quarry. But this is no ordinary outdoor venue; it's set to rival even the grandest of opera houses with a twist of Opera Anywhere quirky flair. Dubbed the "Mini Eden Project," the amphitheatre is said to be a collaborative effort between Opera Anywhere and the renowned Eden Project. The British organisation known for its iconic biomes is supplying one of its spare domes to be incorporated into the design, adding a touch of eco-friendly innovation to the project. The announcement has caused quite a stir in the opera community, with many questioning the feasibility of such an ambitious undertaking. However, Opera Anywhere remains steadfast in its vision, promising that the quarry-turned-amphitheatre will be a sight to behold. "We believe that opera should be accessible to everyone, and what better way to achieve that than by bringing it to unexpected places?" says co-founder Mike Woodward, the visionary behind the project. "Our collaboration with the Eden Project is a testament to our commitment to sustainability and creativity." According to preliminary sketches released by Opera Anywhere, the amphitheatre will be nestled amidst the rugged cliffs of the quarry, with the Eden dome serving as the centerpiece. Surrounding greenery will be carefully curated to create a picturesque backdrop for performances, promising an immersive experience unlike any other. Naturally, reactions to the announcement have been mixed, with some praising Opera Anywhere for its innovative approach to opera staging, while others remain skeptical of the logistical challenges involved. There is some concern that the appearance of a dome will upset the appetites of the nearby grazing deer. Nevertheless, anticipation is high for the grand unveiling of the Mini Eden Project amphitheatre, scheduled for April 1, 2025. Only time will tell whether this ambitious April Fool's Day prank-turned-project will become a reality, but one thing's for sure: Opera Anywhere certainly knows how to keep audiences on their toes.
