Seattle has a vast network of nearly 500 parks all over the city, from Puget Sound in the west to Lake Washington in the east. Unless you happened to write the book on Seattle’s parks, it is unlikely that you’ve had a chance to visit them all, just due to the vast amount. More than likely, you’ve visited parks in your neighborhood, since 99% of residents in Seattle live within a 10-minute walk to a park. Many people have challenges to access parks in parts of the city outside their neighborhood – whether based on income, time, mobility, or transportation. Yet affordable and accessible transit options exist in Seattle to get you out to explore a new city park not so near to you. https://lnkd.in/gpN37hbk

Highest grossing in nation. Most visitors in nation. When I've posted about the impacts to Silverthorne infrastructure, it relates to these facts: 1) The Forest Service just announced that Summit County's portion of the White River National Forest is the busiest forest in the US for SUMMER VISITORS only (not counting winter ski visits). 2) Highest grossing City Market, Noodles & Company, Smash Burger, Cheeba Hut in the nation are all in Summit County. When I research Summit County stores south of I70, the statistics aren't the same. The northern county is HOT. Shocking for a little town of only 5,000 residents. When these facts are combined, it gives a different picture of our daily work. The highest impact to our infrastructure in Summit County is not the 8 months of consistent snow. The biggest concern is the maintenance of infrastructure in the management of PEOPLE. The dedication to infrastructure and environment is extensive effort and the partnership that Silverthorne is undertaking with our neighboring agencies is exciting. There are big things happening because there are big needs! Forest Service article: https://lnkd.in/ewuBBHsj Transportation article: https://lnkd.in/ejXxY3M6

A bit more sunshine is always welcome in the Netherlands, but can cause also lower air quality. With more ozone more smog is created in the summer and trees emit more volatile hydrocarbons. This also contributes to the formation of particulate matter. Heat waves often coincide with periods of ozone smog. The combination of heat and smog leads to more deaths among the elderly and people with poor health. (Source: Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu). This initiative in the City of Vancouver probably leads to energetic, lively, better livable streets in the summer time and creates more social cohesion. But also for improving air quality this is an excellent idea. For sure interesting to investigate.
Rock on City of Vancouver! This summer, Water Street in the vibrant Gastown district was transformed into a car-free zone, creating a lively, inclusive space for everyone to enjoy. In July and August, this busy street became a location for recreation, small events and community activities — an inspiring example of people-centric urban planning in action. With rerouting traffic and changing curbside functions around the area to support logistics, impact on businesses was minimized. Across the city, more curbside management initiatives are reclaiming vehicle space for the people—a trend I’m happy to see spreading across more cities in North America! 👏👏👏 #curbsidemanagement #urbaninnovation #Vancouver #gastown #publicspace #urbandevelopment #smartcity

"The City of Medicine Hat on Wednesday installed a mobi-mat at Echo Dale Regional Park, helping those with #mobility issues gain access to the beach and get closer to the water. Don and Frank Gilham, a pair of brothers who both utilize mobility #scooters, were watching the mobility mat get installed. "Frank feels the mats will help a number of people looking for better beach access. 'I think it’s great for anybody really, even any kind of grandparents or anyone that has any issues with walking or traversing soft ground like that,' Frank said. “'It’ll give them an opportunity to get out to the water edge where they could sit on a lawn chair and if they want to be there with their grandkids and playing and splashing and all that and it’s all important.'” "Don said the city does a good job of looking after accessibility and inclusion. 'It’s a big plus, our city they’re light years ahead of most cities, they really are in what they afford us and there are some really good things that we should be getting out to people,' Don said. "Scott Richter, business and innovations manager with the city said they are always looking for ways to increase #access for people at all city facilities, with Echo Dale as no exception. 'Whether you have you know, a stroller, I think sometimes hard to push a stroller in the sand. So, #wheelchairs, #walkers, anything like that, this will be an easier way to get down to the water for people,' Richter said. "'That’s what we’re really, really trying to do is get people more access to all our amenities and facilities,' he added." Good News, Elizabeth City! 🙌🏼 Recently, the city of Elizabeth City was awarded a $378,000 grant from CAMA for the Camden Causeway Park revitalization. The grant is one of 14, totaling $2.8 million, that is being awarded to coastal communities across North Carolina to improve access to waterways. For two years, this park has been closed and fallen into disrepair, leaving much of the northern region of the Pasquotank harder to reach. This park never had a kayak launch, and only a skeleton remains of its 890-ft wooden boardwalk. As part of the revitalization effort, a kayak launch will be created, along with ADA accessibility—another thing this park previously lacked. It goes without saying, but I’m stoked about the launches being built! Seems like all the hard work is paying off. I’d like to thank @greensavesgreennc , an environmental organization here in the city, for spreading awareness about the need for new launch sites, in addition to the revitalization of Causeway Park! Huge shout-out to the city for making it happen as well. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025! 🔧🚧 ————————— #camdencausewaypark #elizabethcitync #kayaklaunch #waterwayaccess #ncwaterways #northcarolinaparks #revitalization #pasquotankriver #waterconservation #outdooradventures #greensavesgreen #waterwayrevitalization #coastalnorthcarolina #adventureawaits #wildlifeconservation #kayakingadventures #communityprojects #ADAaccessibility #kayaklife #sustainableliving #coastalliving #cityplanning #conservationefforts #outdoorrecreation #nikonphotographers #nikond850 #d850photographer #barlowstudio #natureenthusiast #keepgettingoutthere

THIS IS A CITY PARK TO END ALL CITY PARKS A nice, paved pathway meanders over the sandy desert, makes a couple of bends, and leads to the overlook at the city park. It would be a tough call to choose whether Horseshoe Bend City Park in Page, Arizona, or Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado, are the most scenic city parks in the U.S. In Arizona, some municipalities make city parks a big deal. Scottsdale owns the largest municipal park in the world, Phoenix has the second, third, and fifth largest, and Houston has the fourth largest. For Page, Horseshoe Bend Park is as large as the desert preserves in Phoenix and Scottsdale, but it is surely the most impressive city park in Arizona and possibly the entire country. Garden of the Gods is stunning; Horseshoe Bend is breathtaking. The scene unfolding wider than eyes can take in a single glance is where the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area meets a Page City park. Page replaced the old dirt parking area and soft sandy trails with an enlarged paved parking area, shaded picnicking, and a paved accessible pathway to the overlook. The city charges $10 per passenger vehicle. It is still possible to leave the paving behind and wander across the natural terrain to get interesting views. Horseshoe Bend is one of the most photogenic vistas in the American Southwest. In fact, it probably ranks as one of the top symbols of the American West. #pageaz #Arizona #horseshoebend #cityparks #glencanyonnationalrecreationarea #glencanyon

There has been a significant surge in visitors at US National Parks in recent years. In 2013, the number was 273 million. Last year, 325 million people visited the parks. Not everyone sees that as a positive for the preservation of the parks’ natural beauty and people trying to escape the chaos of modern life. Part of this concern includes the expanding number of visitors putting themselves at risk as some venues are being impacted by increased use. Pundits note that there are risks in all parts of life and that people should just take proper precautions and use their judgment to determine whether the hike is worth the risk of an unlikely fall rather than adding one more thing that changes national parks from the way things used to be. #unitedstates #nationalparks #protectedareas #riskmanagement #healthandsafety #destinationmanagement Ron Hallman Francois Masse, CPA, CA, CD Bill Hunt Greg Thompson Rogier Gruys Keri McMahon Joe Pavelka Frank Creasey Tim Badman Stephen Woodley Thiago Beraldo Anna Spenceley Patricia M.
