Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage or deterioration of the nerve fibers. Signs and symptoms of MS vary widely between patients and depend on the location and severity of nerve fiber damage in the central nevous system. Some people with severe MS may lose the ability to walk independently or ambulate at all. Other individuals may experience long periods of remission without any new symptoms depending on the type of MS they have. There's no cure for multiple sclerosis. This educational session aimed to inform everyone about this hereditary blood disorder that impacts millions worldwide. We discussed the basics of SCD, including how it affects the body, its genetic inheritance patterns, and the different types of sickle cell disorders. The workshop also covered common symptoms like severe pain, anemia, and frequent infections, along with potential complications such as stroke and organ damage. Management and treatment options were another key focus, emphasizing the importance of regular health check-ups, proper hydration, and avoiding extreme temperatures. Lastly, we highlighted the importance of support systems and shared resources for further information, including Sickle Cell Foundations and healthcare providers. This workshop was an eye-opener, reinforcing the need for awareness and education to support those affected by SCD and aid in the quest for a cure. As a real estate leader, I believe in the power of awareness and education in all areas, including health. Supporting sickle cell disease awareness aligns with our mission to foster informed, compassionate communities.
