Looking for the next generation of journalists? Check out the college radio stations and newspapers covering the protests. The student journalists know the issues, the players, what is actually happening at these events and are live reporting in very difficult circumstances. They are doing a much better job than the fly-in national media or the under-staffed local media. Their journalism is stronger - official/institutional statements are provided with context, divestment demands are presented fairly with a historical framework, and the protesting students involved are shown as real people. The legacy media is focused on violence video, law enforcement "experts," and repeating official/institutional statements. Listen to how boomers talk about students on-air, and ask yourself this, "Besides the low pay, what is so attractive about broadcast media for the journalism students of today?" #journalism #media #students
