WRAP’s Circular Product Standards Certification At the heart of the circular economy is the commitment to #reduce #waste, #reuse resources, and #recycle materials. It’s about shifting from a ‘take-make-dispose’ model to one where every product is designed and manufactured with its next life in mind. WRAP is aiming to complete three standards before January 2025 for the following circular products: Preloved, Reusable, and Refillable. We also intend to start development on a #Durability standard. These certifications are science-based, data-driven, and designed to reduce a products impact on the environment. To ensure the robustness of the Preloved Certification Standard, we’re inviting organisations to contribute to its development through a public consultation. Analyzing the Implications of SB 707, California: What You Need to Know The Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2023, also known as SB 707, is set to bring about significant changes in the way postconsumer apparel and textile articles are managed in California. This legislation, if adopted, will require producers to establish a stewardship program for the collection and recycling of covered products, which include any unwanted postconsumer apparel or textile article. One of the key provisions of SB 707 is the requirement for producers to either establish a stewardship program independently or through the creation of one or more stewardship organizations. This is a crucial step towards ensuring that the responsibility for managing postconsumer textile waste is placed on the shoulders of those who produce these products in the first place. Moreover, SB 707 also mandates producers of apparel or textile articles to form and join a producer responsibility organization (PRO). The PRO will be responsible for implementing and managing the stewardship program, and will need to be approved by the department in order to operate in compliance with the bill. The implementation of SB 707 will not happen overnight, as the bill specifies that the department must adopt regulations to implement the program no earlier than January 1, 2028. This gives producers and stakeholders ample time to prepare for the changes that will come with this legislation. Overall, the implications of SB 707 are significant for both producers and consumers in California. Producers will need to take responsibility for the end-of-life management of their products, while consumers can expect to see more options for recycling and disposing of their unwanted apparel and textile articles. In conclusion, SB 707 represents a step forward in the efforts to create a more sustainable and responsible textile industry in California. By holding producers accountable for the products they create, this legislation has the potential to greatly reduce the environmental impact of postconsumer apparel and textile waste. It is important for all stakeholders to stay informed and prepared for the changes that SB 707 will bring, as we work towards a more sustainable future for the textile industry. https://lnkd.in/gyaz-JsS
